I would so like to move towards all organic foods - including meats. (You know, the farm-raised, we don't feed our cows other cows kind of thing.) But how do I know I'm actually getting organic? Can't they just slap a label on there. Not to mention the price-factor. And I lack this thing called MONEY.

I'd buy your book.

here's a guide I use when I'm shopping. I can't afford to buy totally organic, and this is a list of foods that have higher or lower levels of pesticides after washing: http://www.foodnews.org/walletguide.php

also, you can plug your postal code in here: http://www.eatwellguide.org/ and it will direct you to local farms where you can buy organic meat and produce. It might cost you a little more in gas than going to Giant Eagle, but the money goes right back into the community and you can trust the product that you're getting.

it would worth the effort even on a limited budget. some foods are labled (ex: an 'organic' label has to be FDA approved, but a 'natural' label is NOT and can therefore can mean whatever the manufacturer want. here's a clue: all food is natural.), others foods you have to read the ingredients and decide for yourself based on what you already know or common sense even. i am so in the habit of reading the ingredients now that i actually annoy other poeple.

also, if you want mad-cow free cow meat i understand japan has the most strictly monitored meats. they test every single cow. so buy japanese i guess? you'd have to pay more though for the shipping i am sure. amrican and canadian are unfortunatley the most susceptable due to our lack of testing. amrica only tests cows who show symptoms and canada still uses its mad cow positive meat for rendering.
