Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

More big news for Potter fans https://www.pottermore.com/news/ww-publishing-cursed-child-script-book-announcement

So, much earlier than I expected, an initial (rehearsal) playscript both in print and digital form on 31 July, plus a 'definitve' edition later in the year. Guess it's a huge money maker. How many fans will buy both...

I don't understand the difference between a rehearsal version and a definitive edition. The play first performance is going to be on July 30.
What does it mean then? The initial printed copies are not going to be complete? To avoid spoilers to theatergoers?

Nothing to do with omitting material for spoilers. The play opens from 7 June for preview performances. These are like extended dress rehearsals, and are used to refine the performance in front of an audience in real time until the official premiere on 30 July when the press are allowed in for official reviews. Previews are common practice in London theatre and tickets for previews are cheaper than for the fully fledged run. Whilst it doesn't always happen, nevertheless a script may change quite radically during the preview period of a new play - hence I am both surprised and delighted that both versions are being published.

Oh, how interesting! Here in my country there are no previews for public attendance.
Looking forward for both versions then!
Thanks for explaining me this. Perhaps the definitive edition will be more like a book than just the plain playscript, with a few drawings included like the previous/older Harry Potter books used to be. Or not.
LOL!

Rehearsal play script available to pre-order on Amazon (both .com and .co.uk) already. I'm truly amazed! :-)
