summary: Eve has gone to find an untainted blood supply
a/n: Any mistakes are mine. This I had not planned at all, but I am extremely happy with it. I adore writing from Eve's point of view and this pairing is killing me in a good way.
Eve had promised Adam that she would only be gone two weeks, but those two weeks had extended into a month. She had called him before bed when the time allowed and kept him informed of her activities. They hid nothing from one another if it could be helped. London was a city she missed dearly and one that Adam avoided as if his life depended on it. Eve supposed, in some ways, that it did. If the trip to London had been unnecessary, then she would have been back in Tangier with her husband enjoying the warm night air and music.
"Untainted supplies are harder to come by now," her companion stated as he painted. "Adam still not up to seeing his old dive?" Eve merely smiled as she continued to read her book. She missed her extensive library just as much as she missed her other half. Her books offered her a comfort that not much else could.
"He's working on his music and Tangier offers the perfect atmosphere in which to inspire him. I thought his presence would be superfluous and he hates traveling more than I do." The other vampire raised his eyebrow but remained silent. Eve pointedly ignored him. Honestly she could not blame her husband for not wanting to come back to England, not when others like Solomon still haunted it.
"I am to assume that I cannot convince you to spend more time here," Solomon broke the silence. Eve sighed and put her book down on the table next to her. This lonely little flat in the beating heart of a country was not home. She wanted warmth, colour and the energy of a million people who understood history and lived it. London had known two thousand years of history, but so much of it had been changed. The streets of Tangier were the same now as they were thousands of years ago and that same energy flowed throughout the whole port city. It was where she belonged. She may have been born to England, but Morocco was her heart now.
"I'm leaving as soon as the sun sets Solomon and going home." Eve needed to get her new supply of blood back to Adam. When she had left he had just enough to survive the two weeks it was suppose to take to obtain a new supply, but when it was taking longer she had told him he had to find Bilal. Perhaps their friend would be able to help them for just a little while, at least until Eve arrived home. In their calls to one another Adam had assured her that he was well and that everything was under control. His reassurances left much to be desired when the nagging suspicion that he was lying would not leave her alone.
"Just a little while longer then," the other vampire lamented. "Be sure to visit again before the next century comes." Eve would make no such promise.
The flight had been rather empty but it gave Eve time to relax without so many people in a small space. After living with Solomon for a month it was nice to have room to breath and to let down some of her defenses she had raised. Home was calling and she would ignore it no longer. Adam would be thirsty but he would welcome her first before allowing himself to feed, always the gentleman. She smiled just to think of him and before she realized it her feet had carried her to her apartment. Home.
"Adam," she called out as she pushed open the heavy wooden door, still warm from the hot day's sun. Silence greeted her. For a moment she felt her stomach drop, but perhaps he was still asleep. He had been known to lay around in bed all day and night, but he knew she was coming home tonight. Something was wrong.
Her books were still stacked in piles on each step leading up to the living area but there were no lights on nor any sound of movement. Eve rounded the corner into her room and saw that Adam was on her bed. She let out the breath she had been holding but it was short lived.
"Adam?" she called again but still he did not move. Her instincts kicked in and she rushed to him, the case of blood forgotten by the entrance to her room. Adam was heavy as she tried to lift him, his head limp and eyes closed. When had been the last time he had fed? "Adam! Come on darling you need to wake up." Usually she could shake him awake but he was still unconscious. It could not be too late, not after everything they had been through. She would not lose Adam to this. Eve grabbed for the blood in the case and poured some into one of the many small sherry glasses that littered the room. Holding Adam upright she tipped the glass against his mouth and willed him to drink.
"Please Adam," she pleaded as minutes passed by without him drinking. Around her the room was closing in on the two of them. Her world narrowing down to Adam and his still form. She would not say goodbye to her husband, not like this. "Damnit Adam!" Eve took his jaw in her hand and poured the blood into his open mouth before massaging his throat. A moment passed and then another and another. Eve held her breath as she caressed his cheek. Just as she bent forward to kiss his forehead, Adam opened his eyes.
"Eve," he smiled weakly. She smiled, her eyes watering as she placed her head against his chest.
"Hello darling," she whispered.
