Title: Prayers of the Stars

rating: teen
warning: Fluffy angst?
summary: Thor and Loki have a heart to heart.
a/n: This was emotional to write but I love how it turned out. This happens right after Buried, which was the last segment. Prepare tissues. And my apologies for any mistakes.
Prayers of the Stars
Thor took a deep breath and released it before opening the door to Loki's room. After his brother had shared his knowledge of Thanos and the Chitauri he had retired to rest and restore his lost magic. The thunderer expected to see the young woman, but was pleasantly surprised to find that Loki was alone and asleep. It would make it easier to talk without the constant rebuttal from the trickster. He had no doubt, though, that the young god would be listening.
"Brother," Thor began. "I know we have had our differences and our arguments, but I never hated you. You are my younger brother and it was my duty to protect you and I failed. Father should have been more accepting and I should have shown you how dear you are to me instead of joining the others in their teasing. You do not know how much I regret my past actions and what they have done to us, to you."
"I loved you more than anyone else Thor," Loki sighed though his eyes remained closed. "I do not blame you for any of this, not really." Thor scooted closer to the bed and rested his hand gently on his brother's forearm. Loki was cooler to the touch, but the thunderer knew then how unwell his younger brother really was. His Jotun heritage only made an appearance when the trickster allowed it or he was too weak to conceal it.
"There have been mistakes made by us all Loki, it is not completely your fault, which I know is what you've been thinking. You must forgive yourself though, before you can begin to truly heal."
"You've been listening to mother haven't you?" Loki laughed quietly. It had been too long since Thor had heard that pleasant sound from his brother. How he longed for the days before the All-father had banished him to Midgard when he and Loki had trusted one another. There was nothing he would not have done for him.
"She misses you. When you were imprisoned she asked about you daily and tried to convince father to release you." Loki opened his eyes then, shinning the brightest green that Thor had seen in a while. He watched as the trickster struggled to sit up against the headboard since he refused help whenever the thunderer offered it.
"Did she know of your plan? You will not be allowed back, exiled as I am." Thor chuckled and squeezed Loki's forearm lovingly.
"She knew something was going to happen, as most mothers would, but she was not privy to the actual plan. Do not worry brother, we shall see mother again and know the splendor of Asgard." Loki settled back again and closed his eyes. Thor knew he should leave, but the thought of leaving the young god alone was troublesome. Of course, Loki was safe within the Colony's walls, but so much had happened to him that the thunder god was loathed to leave his side even for a little while.
"You do not need to stay Thor, we are perfectly safe here. The elven magic that flows through this compound is very ancient and powerful. A gift from their gods."
"I would rather not go," Thor pleaded. Loki opened a single eye at Thor, his one eyebrow raised. It only took a moment for the trickster to smile and move over in the bed.
"It has been many years since we have shared a room, let alone a bed," Loki stated. "Come and watch over me since I know it's what you've been itching to do." Thor did so without a thought and settled comfortably on the covers even as Loki buried himself beneath a few blankets.
"I thought the cold did not bother you," the thunder god commented before he could stop the errant thought.
"This coldness is not from my Jotun heritage, but from the emptiness left from my magic. I have drained much of my life-force. There is a very fine line that I crossed today and I plan to never do it again if I can help it."
"I won't allow it to get so out of hand," Thor promised. "I will not abandon you."
"When I fell into the void I had given up all hope of ever seeing you again," Loki said. Thor tried to interrupt but the trickster silenced him. "Endless space spread out all about me and drove me crazy. It did not take me long to wish for death just to escape my thoughts and the cold emptiness. I waited for you Thor, but months passed by with out seeing you and the hope that I would be rescued faded day by day. I came to loathe you and that devastated me more than anything else could have." The thunderer lowered his head and gently pressed his forehead to Loki’s own.
"I mourned you," Thor whispered. "I thought you dead and the guilt plagued me for months. I should have been able to save you, like you had saved me from myself. We had never been apart for so long before and I would wake in the middle of the night only to realize that you were gone and not coming back. Never again Loki, I do not want to feel my world shatter so completely." The younger god released a shaky breath before gently nodding.
"Perhaps now I can begin to heal," Loki admitted quietly. Thor placed his arm around his younger brother and held him tightly, his warmth radiating outward and chasing away the chill.
"We both can," Thor agreed before scooting further down the bed. Loki squawked in protest but Thor ignored him until he had settled. "Now you need to rest."
"I was trying to sleep before when you had the urgent need to interrupt me," Loki snapped but Thor merely smiled. His brother was already feeling better if he was attempting to get a rise out of him.
"If you ever have need of anything, Loki," Thor began. "You need only to prayer to the stars and they will listen. The night you fell from the Bifrost I was lost and in pain. I remembered how much you used to talk about the stars and so that night, from your balcony, I raised my prayers to the stars that you would come back to me. And here you are."
"I could never leave you behind Thor, even if I tried. I'll always come back some way or another. That I can promise you." Thor smiled so wide that his cheeks began to hurt. Loki had accepted him despite his past flaws and he once more had his little brother by his side. If the pain they had caused one another could not destroy their brotherhood, then nothing would.
"Brother," Thor murmured before gently bumping their heads together. Loki laughed and closed his eyes.
"Sleep well, brother," he yawned. Thor waited until he could hear the trickster's even breathing before allowing a few tears to fall.
