Take these broken wings and learn to fly me to the moon

Last night I dreamed that I was with a group of dimension hoppers and we came home and it was a few years later and we had hopped in in the middle of a zombie apocalypse. It was never explained why we didn't just hop back out, but I woke up in the middle of the first act so maybe that came up later idk ( Read more... )

That sounds incredibly interesting. Like if the government were just trying to contain the outbreak, they'd either gradually shrink the perimeter (fence off the outbreak area, but reclaim chunks of territory one bit at a time), develop a means of screening survivors (like in the World War Z book, where they discovered dogs could sense people in early stages of infection), or get really ruthless and let everyone die (possibly actively kill them off, to deny the zombies people to infect).

But instead they're keeping the survivors alive, and there's the coincidental skyway thing, and they're just kind of leaving it there, and they're doing research. Definitely shady.

(Also, all zombie apocalypses are hard on disabled people. If you can't outrun a zombie, you're basically dead.)

I mean I made it more blatantly suspicious in the rewrite, in my dream everything was just kind of there and we accepted it but when I woke up I was like "wait". I kinda have this idea that maybe they set it up specifically to study the effects of a zombie outbreak so they could be prepared for a large scale zombie apocalypse? Whatever the reasoning, they definitely created the infection and were setting things up in advance.

(I know, but I do try to actually think about these things even if they don't come up. It's one of the plus sides of Tumblr? Like once you strip away all the toxicity you have an environment that actually encourages you to think about the way you write things and that's at least important. And then the toxicity ruins it.)

Makes sense. There's a lot they'd want to study - the biology of the zombies over time, infection rates, different means of transmission, the social dynamics that develop, different survival strategies, etc. It could be a Cold War-ish thing where they're expecting an enemy to launch a full-scale nationwide zombie outbreak (like a less nuclear more bioweapons cold war) and doing experiments on their own people to test civil defense strategies?

(Yeah, like if they could be all "Here are some useful and important points to consider, but you're not a bag of shit for not perfectly agreeing with me" that would be great.)

Oooh, I kinda like that. They suspect an enemy is gonna do it so they decide to make sure they'll be ready and hey, who's going to miss a few thousand people? It's a small town that doesn't really contribute to the greater good of the country as a whole, so this is their chance to be useful.

(Think about the things you write! Think about the implications you're making! Think about what you default to and why! Also if you in any way imply someone who isn't one of the Tumblr Approved Groups isn't the worst person to ever exist then you're Bad and you should Feel Bad.)
