STORY!!!! This next bit is a little, I don't know, contrived? Anywho, just bear with it.

Just as the ride operator was about to lock her seat in place, another voice shot through the crowd.

“Wait! Excuse me, miss, but I’m wonderin’ if ya would mind too much if I rode wi ye?” Kim nodded her agreement without looking up from her feet. The gentleman sat down next to her and the ride began. Awkwardly, Kim sat in the seat, trying to enjoy the view of the dark countryside and avoid looking at the man next to her. “So,” he said, “me mum in Seattle is no bad conseederin. A canna compleen, only, I never did get that second date wi ye.”

Kim looked at the man sitting next to her with a wide-eyed expression. “Billy?” she asked in amazement. “Oh my gosh! I can’t believe it’s actually you! What are you doing here?”

“Well,” he started, “me mum started getting better about a month ago and I just flew in yesterday. I called yer cell phone number today and some girl named Nik er Vic er somethin’ li’ that answered.” Kim smiled. Victoria still had her cell phone with her from when she borrowed it two days ago. “I thought I had the wrong number but whoe’er it was told me ye were here and so I came an’ waited fer yer turn. And ‘ere I am.” He smiled one of the cutest smiles she had ever seen.

Trying her hardest to disguise her joyful tears, Kim looked bashfully away until she felt something on her hand. He laid his own hand gently on top of hers and looked deep into her eyes. She leaned her head against his shoulder and they rode in silence until it was time to get off. They walked hand in hand to his car and drove away from the fair and into the night.

As the blue Mini wound its way through the countryside, Kim found it hard to keep her eyes open. By the time they had reached the borders of Glasgow, Kim was fast asleep and again dreaming of a future with Billy. From time to time, Billy looked down at the lovely quean next to him and smiled to himself. Realizing that he couldn’t take her to her flat, because he didn’t know the number or have a key, he navigated his way through the streets of Glasgow and to the front of his own spacious flat.

Carefully, he lifted her out of the car and took her into his flat, where he lay her on his king-sized bed. He brushed the hair out of her face and covered the sleeping beauty in a down comforter. He pulled up a chair and watched her sleep until he felt his eyes slowly droop closed and he, too, entered the dream world.

The elevator dinged for the last time as it reached the top floor and the doors opened. Kim rushed in and threw her bags on the bed. She hopped into the shower and quickly washed her hair. Hastily but carefully, she dried her hair and applied brown eye-shadow to her eyes. She brushed her teeth and then gently pulled her new dress out of its bag.

“How am I so lucky?” she wondered in disbelief as she slowly pulled the dress over her head. She stood in front of the full-sized mirror and applied an ample amount of lip-gloss to her lips. Just as she looked at the clock on her bedside table, the telephone rang.

“Good evening, Ms. Golave. Mr. Boyd is here to see you. Shall I send him up, or would you like to meet him down here?”

“Oh, um, you can send him up. He should have a keycard for the elevator. If not, would you please give him one?”

“Of course, Ms. Golave. I will send him right up.” Five minutes later, Kim heard the quiet ding of the elevator as it reached her floor. Quickly, she took another look at herself in the mirror to see that everything was perfect. She heard a quiet knock on the bedroom door and turned to see Billy, dressed in a suit and holding a dozen red roses.

“Wow!” Billy whispered with amazement in his eyes. “You look… perfect. I got these ‘cause at the moment they reminded me of yer beauty, but now I see I was wrong. They don’t even begin to compare with you.” He held up the roses and walked over to her. Slowly, he wrapped his arms around her waist and softly kissed her cheek. “You are the most beautiful thing I have ever seen,” he whispered tenderly into her ear.

Kim grabbed a sweater and her purse and she and Billy headed for the elevator. On the fifteenth floor, an old couple boarded the elevator and exchanged loving glances as Billy softly kissed Kim’s cheek again. Kim couldn’t help but notice how happy the older couple seemed and smiled to herself to think of her and Billy at that age.

Outside the lobby, a black limousine waited to carry them to their destination. They pulled up to a fancy looking Mexican restaurant and the hostess led them to a quiet, secluded area of the restaurant where a table for two waited for them. As they looked over their menus and quietly discussed what they would order, Kim felt happier than she had ever been.

“Are you ready to order, or shall I give you some more time to think it over?” a tall Mexican man asked them.

“Um, I think we’re about ready to order,” Billy answered. “Kim, what’ll you have?”

They ordered their meals and talked about Billy’s day at work. “I’ll be right back, I’ve got to use the little lads’ room,” he said as he laid his hand gently on top of Kim’s. Without taking his eyes off of her, he slowly stood up. Then, smiling lovingly at her, he walked to the bathroom. Just as Kim was about to pull her compact out of her purse, someone sat in Billy’s seat.

“You’re Kim Golave, right?” he asked as Kim looked at him confusedly. “I’m Matt Damon, I’ve seen your pictures on all the magazines. You’re supposedly dating Billy Boyd, right?”

“Um, yeah, I am,” Kim said, wondering why he cared and why he had just sat in Billy’s chair. “Can I help you with something?”

“Well, sure, I guess. I was just wondering if you’d like to go out sometime, maybe after you dump this guy you’re with now. I mean, come on, I’m Matt Damon!”

“So you are,” Kim responded indignantly. “You’re also sitting in my boyfriend’s chair and I would really like it if you would move. He’ll be back from the restroom any minute now.” She smiled rudely at him and frowned disappointedly when he wouldn’t move.

“Here’s my number, just in case you change your mind. Feel free to call it any time, it’s my cell-phone. It’ll connect you directly with me.” And with that, he smiled a cheesy game-show-host smile and went back to his own seat. Kim rolled her eyes and finished pulling her compact out of her purse. Quickly, she glanced at her make-up and replaced the mirror before Billy returned from the restroom.

“Who was that?” Billy questioned.

“I don’t know,” Kim responded unaffectedly and smiled affectionately at Billy.

After dinner, Kim and Billy got into their limo and drove to the beach, where they walked hand in hand through the waves. As the night wore on, it got colder and Billy gently wrapped his coat around her body, holding her tightly in his arms. “I love you so much,” he whispered softly into her ear, and she turned to him and kissed him.

“I love you, too,” she said gently, and her eyes welled up with tears.

“Hey,” he said. “What’s the matter?” Gently, he kissed the tears from her face and stroked her cheek softly with his fingers.

“Nothing,” she breathed. “Absolutely nothing.” And he took her in his arms and held her. He spread a blanket out on the sand and they lay with her head on his chest and watched the stars until she fell asleep. Gently, he lifted her up and carried her to the limo. They drove smoothly back to her hotel, where she awoke in his arms as he lifted her out of the car.

“Hey, gorgeous,” he whispered as her eyes slowly opened.

“Hmm?” she sighed, and he wrapped his arm around her hip and walked her into the hotel lobby. They boarded the elevator and she tiredly changed into her pajamas when they reached her room. Billy, too, changed into his spare set of pajamas and they settled onto her bed. She sat between his legs as he turned the TV. Slowly but surely, they both fell asleep on her bed, arms and legs entwined in each other.

“Actually, James,” Kim heard Billy saying when she awoke, “I am kinda busy today. No, I can’t come in. I know they need me, but they can wait until tomorrow. No, I’m not gonna come in on me first day off in six weeks. Well tell the bastard that he can call me tomorrow. Yeah. Okay, I’ll talk to ya tomorrow.”

Kim smiled at Billy’s ruffled hair. He always looked the best to her when he had just woken up. “Who was that?” she asked groggily.

“Sorry, babe, did I wake ya? That was just Jim, my agent. He said some magazine wanted to interview me today. But don’t be feart, I told him that I was busy.” He smiled winningly and winked at her.

“But we don’t have any plans,” she laughed. “You don’t have to cancel stuff for me. Your job is more important than sitting around doing nothing all day.”

“Kimberly Golave,” he said incredulously. “How dare ya say somethin’ li’ that! Nothing is more important to me than spending time with you, e’en if we aren’t doin’ anythin’. I can’t believe you thought that. Besides, we are doing somethin’ today. You and I are going to the California State Fair. Do you know what the date is today?”

Kim frowned, confused by the sudden route of the conversation. She chewed her lip. “Um, I think it’s June 20th. Oh,” she said. A look of realization dawned on her face and she smiled at him. “June 20th. I can’t believe you remembered. I can’t believe I didn’t remember. What’s wrong with me?”

“There is nothing wrong with you,” Billy corrected sternly. “Yer perfect. Anyway, I didn’t remember until last night when we were watching TV. They showed a commercial for the Cal State Fair and I saw the Ferris wheel and it suddenly dawned on me. ‘Billy,’ I says to meself, ‘tomorrow is yer one year anniversary. Ye’d better as hell do somethin’ special fer Kim.’ So, I thought we would go to this fair thing and ride the Ferris wheel, as kind of a traditional thing, you know?”

Kim sighed adoringly at him and quickly completed her morning ablutions. She once again donned her hip-hugging jeans and tight t-shirt from the first time she bumped into Billy on the street. Billy changed out of his pajamas and into a pair of jeans and white t-shirt. Kim watched him comb his wet hair and smiled at how cute he was.

The fair was incredibly crowded and Kim and Billy clung to each others hands to avoid being separated. At one point, Kim left him to throw some garbage away and he stopped dead in his tracks and looked around worriedly until she finally returned, which to him seemed like an eternity later.

They rode all of the rides until their stomachs churned from all the jolting. Then, as the sun began to set, they strolled arm in arm to the Ferris wheel, where they purchased tickets and boarded the ride. As Kim climbed into the seat, Billy gently grabbed her waist and lifted her onto the ride. She slipped her arm under his and laid her head on his shoulder. He gently stroked her arm and told her how much he loved her.

As the ride neared the top of the cycle, it jolted to a stop and the lights on the side of the ride went dim. The seat shook and Kim clung to Billy’s arm as tight as she could. “I hate heights!” she whispered worriedly. Billy lovingly took her in his arms and ran his fingers through her hair.

“It’ll be alright,” he calmly said, “don’ be feart. I’m here and nothin’s gonna happen. It’s just a small malfunction. The stupid bastard probably hit the brake on accident. Don’ worry.” And as soon as he said that, the lights came on and the ride resumed. Kim hastily hopped out of her seat when they reached the ground and it was their turn to get out.

After they ate dinner and got ice creams, they headed for the front of the park, where their black limousine waited to pick them up. Then they drove back to Kim’s hotel and Billy turned the TV on. Kim frowned at the lack of romance on his part, but settled into bed with her head in his lap. He gently massaged her back and sat intently watching the screen.

“Billy,” Kim chimed, “wouldn’t you rather see if there’s a movie on or something? The news is kind of boring.” Billy shook his head slowly and kept staring at the screen. “Billy! Although I admit that current events are important, maybe we could just check to see if something else is on. I think I read that Cruel Intentions is on tonight. It’s my favorite movie.”

Slowly, Kim sat up and turned to face him. She slyly reached toward the remote, but missed when Billy, without taking his eyes off the screen, moved it out of the way just in time. She laughingly shoved him and tried to wrestle it free from his grasp, but he wouldn’t budge. So she hopped off the bed and started to walk toward the TV to change it manually.

“Hey, look!” Billy shouted. “I’m on the tele. It’s my new commercial.”

Kim stopped and looked at the TV with a confused look as Billy turned the volume up. “You didn’t tell me you made a new commercial,” she said. She sat on the edge of the bed and listened intently.
