Chanyeol/Chen
Chanyeol is a photographer and he catches Chen in the evening light.
Chanyeol gets out of his car with his camera around his neck and its bag hanging from his shoulder. He had come to the seaside away from the busy Seoul city to capture a few photographs for his personal portfolio, and there is something about the evening light that makes his photos even more outstanding.
He takes slow steps from the parking lots to the water, simply enjoying the evening breeze. There is hardly anyone around, Chanyeol notices. It must be because Thanksgiving is just tomorrow, and it reminds him that his Thanksgiving will be a lonely one. Again.
Chanyeol finds a bench and sets his camera bag down. He sits next to it and stares out at the sea, fiddling with his camera strap. A long, contented sigh escapes him as he looks at the horizon, where the sky meets the sea. It has always been one of his favourite sights.
Getting up and taking the bag with him, Chanyeol takes off the camera lens cap and keeps it in the front right pocket of his jeans. He walks to his left, towards the breakwater where he can squat and take good photos. He is surprised to find a lone figure sitting with its back facing him when he reaches his spot, because he’s always been alone and it was the eve of a holiday so he expected nobody.
Chanyeol is about to creep closer when he realises how the figure looks perfect in the angle he’s looking at it. It’s totally black, like a shadow, because of the evening sun and he knows that it would give his photos the extra oomph instead of just beautiful yet boring scenes. Under the safety of the trees and its shadows, he raises his camera and places his eye at the viewfinder of his camera, stealthily snapping a few shots.
The person with broad shoulders sitting on the breakwater moves and Chanyeol is afraid that he might have just gotten caught although he had taken caution to not make any noises, but he heaves a sigh of relief when all the person does is to change positions slightly left instead of facing the sea. Chanyeol also stops breathing for a moment because the picturesque scene seems even more perfect with the side profile. Raising his camera once more and snapping a few shots, Chanyeol forgets to keep his silence and accidentally lets out a gasp when he reviews his flawless photos.
“Who’s there?”
Chanyeol curses under his breath and scratches the back of his head with one hand, the other still holding onto his camera.
“I know you’re there.”
Chanyeol gives up and emerges from the shade of the trees, showing himself to the man.
“I’m sorry. I couldn’t resist,” Chanyeol apologises, head down.
Chanyeol looks up and sees that the man is now standing, staring back at him. He is taken back by the sharp features and is very certain that he’s never seen anyone so breathtakingly handsome. Chanyeol keeps silent as he lets his eyes roam around the person in front of him. Apart from having amazingly sharp features, the stranger also has a pretty nicely shaped body. Not too muscular, not too thin. He’s pretty short for a guy, but just the perfect height for someone as tall and lanky as Chanyeol.
He feels his heartbeat quicken in his chest just by the sight of the man in front of him, and Chanyeol decides he wants to get to know him.
“Can I see your camera?”
Chanyeol freezes. He doesn’t think he would like a complete stranger take photos of him secretly. He would feel like he was being stalked and Chanyeol mentally hits himself for not considering the consequences of his actions.
“I heard your camera shutters just now. I just want to see how your photos turned out.”
Taking hesitant steps towards the man, Chanyeol takes the strap off his neck and hands his camera over to him once he’s in front of him. The man takes the camera silently and Chanyeol lets his eyes roam around the unknown face once more. He looks even more handsome up-close and Chanyeol resists the urge to reach over and touch him. He also notices that he’s much taller, and that the other man only reaches slightly above his shoulders.
“These are good,” the man muses, looking through Chanyeol’s photos.
“Thanks, I guess,” Chanyeol mumbles, scratching his head.
The man looks up and beams at Chanyeol who is taken aback by the friendly smile.
“If you’re feeling guilty, don’t be,” he smiles with his hand out. “I’m Jongdae. Kim Jongdae.”
“Chanyeol. Park Chanyeol,” Chanyeol replies, feeling himself smile while he grabs Jongdae’s hand and gives him a firm handshake.
Jongdae nods, still with the grin on his face, and gestures for Chanyeol to join him on the breakwater. The taller man awkwardly sits next to Jongdae with some space in between them, bringing his legs in to rest his chin on his knees. He feels like he shouldn’t be there to interrupt Jongdae’s private time, but he also feels like there’s no other better place than beside Jongdae.
“I think it’s nice out tonight,” Jongdae says, breaking the silence.
Chanyeol hums in response and turns his head to look at the other man. He still wants to get to know him, and he’s not going to be able to do it with the two of them just sitting idle.
“Uh,” Chanyeol starts.
“Do you want to get to know me?” Jongdae interrupts.
The taller man is surprised by Jongdae’s straightforwardness but then concludes that he likes it. Chanyeol is often too shy to make the first move and he’s never been a social butterfly.
“If that’s okay with you.”
Jongdae scoots closer and Chanyeol finds it hard to act normal when their arms are brushing against each other. He slightly turns his head and faces forward, willing his heart to slow down its fast beating.
“Well, you already know my name. I’m 21. I’m currently studying at Seoul National University and majoring in journalism. I like coming here because it’s always so quiet and there’s nobody around. Well, until today,” Jongdae introduces himself, chuckling when Chanyeol turns red at his last sentence.
“How did you get here from Seoul?”
“I take public transport. You?” Jongdae replies with a bright smile, turning to face Chanyeol.
“I, uh, drive,” Chanyeol clears his throat, looking back at Jongdae.
With Jongdae this close, Chanyeol’s heart starts racing again. It’s so loud in his chest that Chanyeol thinks Jongdae can hear it from where he is beside him. Jongdae leans forward and Chanyeol goes back, keeping a distance in between the two of them.
“Are you nervous?”
Chanyeol gulps and shakes his head slowly, although it was obvious that he was. Jongdae goes back to his original position and looks out to the sea, clearly amused. Silence ensues between the two and Chanyeol fiddles with his camera, bringing it up to his eyes to snap a few shots. When he puts the camera down, he is surprised to find that Jongdae is looking at him.
“Chanyeol?”
“Yes?”
“Would you like to take a picture with me?”
Jongdae smiles that smile again and Chanyeol does the same, trying to not look weird and ignoring his quickening heartbeat at the same time.
“Of course.”
Jongdae pulls out his phone from his pocket and shifts closer, his side pressing into Chanyeol’s. He holds his phone up after a few presses to its screen, struggling because he has short arms and Chanyeol is just too tall to fit into the frame. Jongdae pouts and Chanyeol finds the need to look the other way before he gives in and kisses the other man.
“You hold the phone.”
Chanyeol takes the phone in his own hands and holds it up, successfully fitting the both of them into the frame. Jongdae leans in further, pressing more into Chanyeol and beaming up into the camera. Chanyeol tries to look unaffected but they realise his smile came out funny when they look at the photo, and Jongdae laughs. He laughs with his hand on Chanyeol’s thigh, the warmth seeping through the denim and Chanyeol likes it. He likes it a lot. He turns his head to glance at Jongdae, who abruptly stops and catches his gaze. Both freeze on the spot but suddenly Chanyeol feels another pair of lips on his own.
Jongdae’s mouth is against his, as if testing the waters. Chanyeol grins a small one and presses into the kiss, twisting his upper body in an attempt to fix their uncomfortable positions. His hands come to rest on Jongdae’s waist and the other’s arms wrap around his neck and pulls him close. Probably realising how awkward their positions still were, Jongdae helps the both of them by moving to sit in Chanyeol’s lap, lips never breaking contact. The taller man is pleasantly surprised and shudders when fingers play with the hair at his nape, slightly tickling him. Jongdae lets his tongue run along Chanyeol’s bottom lip before he pulls away, smirking when Chanyeol leans forward for more contact with his eyes closed.
“We just met, and this might seem a little too fast, but I think I’m starting to like you.”
Chanyeol opens his eyes at the sudden confession, meeting with Jongdae’s dark brown orbs. He can tell that he was being sincere, if the emotions in his eyes are anything to go by.
“That’s good,” Chanyeol replies, his lips only a few millimetres away from Jongdae’s. “Because I’m starting to like you too.”
