It's kinda disgraceful how those people use the bible to refute good things happening.

Didn't jesus say something about taking care of the poor and the lesser among you? Been a while since I read it... But I know there's something like that.

Oh aye, matey. Not only did Jesus himself say that, but it was also mentioned time and time again in the Old Testament, specifically when the Lord gave the Law to Moses and the children of Israel.

Gotta admit it, Piper...

I'm impressed. A tip of my hat to you, sir.

Did Jesus say for his people to care for the needy/homeless/poor, etc or did he want the Government to do it? I believe he said to "render unto Ceasar what is Ceasers", which I take to mean that the government's business is a seperate deal from his followers. I don't see where it is the job of the government to supply anything to the poor/homeless/needy etc, but rather it is the Church/Christians job. We do that through missions and ministry on a daily basis if we are doing our jobs as followers of Jesus.

Just my $.02

Aye, good point, and what you said is very true, it is the duty of Christians to take care of the poor, which is why this moron's hypocritical ideals rubbed me the wrong way. I agree absolutely.

Now we all have different opinions to as to the universal health care positions, I personally think it is a good idea, but the current plan to impliment it is stupid. But lets just take that out of the picture for just a second.

We live in a country where our government is supposed to be by the people, of the people, and for the people. That very definition says that it is supposed to be an extension of the will of the people. (Key word is supposed, and we've had this conversation before)

So if you are a Christian, and your government is supposed to be elected based on your moral, ethical, and social views, you will vote your conscience. Therefore, the government can (if functioning properly) become an extension, a channel if you will, through which a Christian may try and help his fellow man by voting for people who support those ( ... )

I can see your point, and to some extent I would agree. Here is my problem with the government providing pretty much anything besides defense, roads and "don't kill people" laws/enforcement: They suck at it. Everything. They suck at all of it. Welfare is abused by pretty much everyone on it (lets take a look at how many big screen TV boxes there are on the side of the road for trash pickup at the projects ( ... )

I totally get what your saying, and well put. That's my big argument against the universal health care plan that they're working on now... too many opportunities for payoffs and for the government to generally cock it up ( ... )

Cap, just thought I'd derail from the main point and say that as someone who works in a hospital (ok, not medically, but clerically) operating universal health care, the delays in treatment are nearly always waiting for planned/elective surgery and not as much ER stuff. The key word is Emergency. The basic flaw in universal health care is government and how much they are willing to invest, which I can see as a potential problem in the US as there will always be the question of whether the healthcare should be national or individual state funded.

US method of paying for things worries me, but I'll start going on about car insurance and cell phones if I keep at it.

Aye, very well put Master Guise (I'm guessing Master, because I'm not quite sure, no offense if you're a Mistress). And might I add, it's always a pleasure when X-Ers drop by. :)

Master it is, but I'd never say no to a good Mistress (or a bad one).

Rather coincidental, but today in a team meeting talking about overall achievemnts, I found out that generally there is a target that no patient should ever have to wait more than four hours between walking through 'ER' doors and being seen by a doctor, even during peak times. Ok, four hours is a long wait, but that's why we have triage.
