Long entry so its here if you really want to read about some guy playing poker...
This year's 1st Quarter TPL Final is finally over with and five players now get to play in Vegas and it was one hell of a day. I almost didn't get there in time since I was going the wrong way for awhile and had to drive pretty much the whole right way between 80-100mph just to make it in time. The showing was around the same as December's at around 160 players from all over Texas. This time around though they increased the time for blinds to 25 minutes w/ slow increments like 125/250. I told myself from the start that if I did better than I did last time I wouldn't care about not finishing 20th or better (where the prize/money cutoff started) but of course I probably jinxed myself because I finished 62nd, two places worse than my 60th showing from December, grrr. I don't believe in fate though, my finish simply reflected my poor play all day long. I always seem to start well and then lose my fucking mind half-way into a tourney at the sight of any Ace in my hand. Playing 5-handed and right before the director was about to move us all to other tables, I fell in love with my final hand of A7 off-suit, big mistake...or at least in how I played it. I'm short-stacked and heads up with the chip leader of our table when the Flop comes 4 A J. I should have just gone all in right then with what little I had left but instead I let him see the Turn and a Queen spiked. The bitch of spades gave him a 10 to Ace straight! He bets into me of course and puts me all in, probably hoping I had that Ace or Queen and I hesitate for three seconds and my dumbass calls and I'm done for the day. Had I went all in pre-flop there would have been that small chance that big chip would have folded his K10 off-suit, albeit small though since if I was in his position I would think it almost 50/50 or better holding K10 against a desparate short stack hand. Actually, if I had simply done it on the flop with top pair he may have easily folded his draw hand, but then again maybe not with a turn and river left to come. So basically I was probably fucked either way. Despite my analysis and woulda-shoulda's, the real problem was that I played A7 off-suit instead of just throwing it away like I should have. Anyway, after busting out I decided to cheer for Team San Angelo, which as a whole was doing really well. Eight of us made it into the top 20, three in the top 10, and Julia took 1st place for us! Finally, a San Angelo player takes a TPL victory!
I can't wait for the 2nd Quarter season to kick off already...
