It's a stupid world we live in...

Or maybe I just live in a stupid country? The sliding scales for income with things like Medicaid, low-income housing, and child care scholarships were created by people with absolutely no concept of reality. Yeah, something retarded relating to this is going on at work. The manager, Josh, is trying to get on food stamps despite the facts that he just bought a nice house, rolls around in a Mercedes-Benz, makes more than enough to support his familiy, and spends more on random goofy shit in a week than I have in several months. If he qualifies, I'll be so pissed.

It just seems like all of these systems that are set up to help low-income people are designed to make sure they stay low-income. The ONLY way we could afford to pay without any help would be if one or both of us received raises that miraculously increased our monthly income by a couple thousand dollars. Any person living in the real world knows just how damn unlikely that is. As it is, people in our situation have to do things like cut hours, quit working, or refuse raises in order to afford these extremely necessary things - because, as I said before - no employer is going to grant the kind of raise that we need. It's really fucking ironic.

As I'm sure you know, you are preaching to the choir, sister. Keep talking about it. The more people know about this, the more likely something will happen to change it. I'm all for a violent revolution myself, but whatever.

I need to organize my thoughts and write a letter to the editor or something for whatever good it'll do. The more I think about it, the more I come to realize that all of these systems that are supposed to give aid are actually cages to keep struggling people in the constant state of struggle. At least, that's what they've been made to be.
