It's Wednesday morning and neither of our presidential candidates have officially declared victory... but it looks as if the president has defeated Senator Kerry -- both in the popular vote and electoral vote. Like everyone else, I will patiently wait for the results ( Read more... )

None of your arguments against Kerry were actually true.

You've been baboozeled, friend, along with half of the country. And this country is fucked. Intractably fucked.

I have no doubt that Bush and has made us less safe, has completely undermined core American values, will irreversibly damage the environment, will transform the gulf separating the rich and poor into an ocean, will drive our economy into the ground, will systematically overturn the rights of women, minorities, the poor and the otherwise disenfranchised, will write a blank check to Halliburton and his other war-mongering corporate cronies.

Kerry wasn't my first choice, but he wasn't a bad one, either. And he was our last hope for bringing some sense of remaining REAL American values to the White House.

I don't know what to do, I really don't. But something has to be done.

i don't share your view, as i believe that America is stronger than simply its presidency. too much credit has been given to the presidency in the past few years as being responsible for the outcome of this country. it was built on a system of checks and balances for a reason.

America has voted and both the popular and electoral vote support the president as well as a strengthened republican congress, which both in turn will strengthen a more republican-centric judiciary. and so it stands, the will of the people.

i didn't say whether or not i support the outcome as a whole, and i certainly was not happy with the choice of candidates. that was why it was a tough decision: because either way there will be concessions. but as i said, i weighed those choices and i felt i made the right one.

The last four years have shown that a Republican house and senate are incapable of providing the appropriate and necessary checks and balances.

And as Supreme Court appointments loom ahead..

I think these next four years will be far worse than the last. And beyond reversible domestic damage (ie, increasing inequality between the sexes, races, and classes, specific legislation and court decisions), there is the irreversible damage of war, greed, negligence, and abuse to the country and the world at large. This is about more than the next four years, and though I don't know how you specifically voted, I think the wrong decision was made.

more than half the country disagrees with you, though. the will of the people has been stated. that is incontrovertible. instead of looking at what "could have been" or waiting for the despondent future you perceive we face, i would suggest you do everything in your power to shape the future -- instead of resent the past. there are approx 56 million others who feel the same way you do. go forth and conquer.
