Oh, how I love this story. I 'm so glad you chose to repost it. Reading the other comments, I have to agree that this comes second only to Spirit as my favorite. I never feel that I can write adequate fb for your stories, but fortunately for this one I can use a haiku :)
Words are clumsy words

Hmmm... I always wonder about this: wouldn't Gandalf *know* how things work, as one of the assistants of the very Creators? But he'd also want to retain the connection to mortal belief, perhaps - or shielf off unwelcome inquiry...
