My romanised name is Ooi Phaik Chern (in the Hokkien dialect). In Mandarin, it's pronounced 'Huang Bi-juan' and in Cantonese, 'Wong Bik-gyun'. All in all, it's down to the Chinese characters.

黃 huáng | wong (yellow, a surname)
碧 bì | bik (jade; green jade ; green, blue)
娟 juān | gyun (beautiful, graceful)

Oooh... your Chinese name! I've wondered about that actually since the ethnic backgrounds in Malaysia I know are pretty well-mixed with that influence. :D

My middle name means jade as well! Though it's a different one... :3 Heee... I wish I was able to read and write Chinese as well. I'm trying my best to pick up more mandarin even though I'm fluent in cantonese. Unfortunately, that's not the primary dialect. LOL!
