summary: where kyuhyun waits patiently, and realizes that the grass isn’t always greener on the other side.
kyuhyunnie~, i'll be back soon, i promise! take care of yourself, okay? ^^
that was the last thing that eunhyuk had told kyuhyun before he left for new york to fully pursue his dream of being in broadway. kyuhyun knew he couldn't do anything to stop the young tyrone jackson from seeking greener pastures after performing successfully a couple of years back.
kyuhyun remembers watching eunhyuk on broadway with donghae and heechul, his fluid dance steps on stage matching his character and his massive improvement in acting and singing made the three of them so proud of the dancing machine. the maknae knew his hyung was destined for greatness though he was just too shy to admit it - thinking that eunhyuk might mistake it as bribery or merely a sloppy means of sucking up.
it was only when he left that kyuhyun wanted to follow him in his footsteps, but couldn't as he was due for public service in the next few months. at first the younger man thinks that his major accident that gave him a second chance at living was enough to keep him away from public service. but, alas, just like his heechul-hyung who was with him during the accident, he still needed to go away for 2 years to serve his beloved country.
now that their group has been on hiatus after producing several albums, each creating record hits around the world. their loyal fans are just waiting patiently for kyuhyun to go through public service and pray that they have a comeback, after several years of having to watch them perform on stage despite lacking so many members each time.
at some point he wished that he didn't have to go through public service. then again it was mandatory for every korean male to do so, and it would be considered unfair if he were the only one in the group who didn't have to go through this mandatory service just because he was a renowned pop star - heck, all his hyungs are renowned pop stars and they had to go through the same thing.
for now the maknae had tons of free time to himself. not many people have been offering him guests spots on variety shows due to the several other rookie groups out there who are just beginning to expose themselves to the pressures of the entertainment world. other than that, he spends much of his time with friends, occasionally tweeting photos and receiving thousands of replies from fans, hoping to get a reply from him - somehow. if not in korea with his family, kyuhyun spends most of his time traveling around europe, an evident pastime of his that he usually indulges in whenever the group had breaks after successfully completing promotions as well as their world tour. here he spends countless hours trying different places around spain, italy, and france. lazily indulging in the finest wine that he could get in the city and writing notes on a journal that he brings with him in his travels that might mean nonsense to everyone else but himself.
at this point, though, he wanted to rent a car and go around by himself, assured that he visited these places so often that he knew them by the back of his hand. with a car, kyuhyun knew he could bring himself to discover places that would leave him breathless and eventually immortalize them in his journal.

he finds himself by the cliffs of some random mountain on the outskirts of france. how and why did he end up there, kyuhyun didn't exactly know. although he was sure something in his gut instincts brought him there and he couldn't bring himself to go against them now that he was all to himself.
the clear nightlife of paris was so beautiful and colourful just by those cliffs, kyuhyun thinks to himself. he was never good at taking photos so he figured he should just keep a distinct description in his journal instead.
he spots the famous moulin rouge from all the way up there and suddenly remembers eunhyuk and their trip to italy before. he used to frequently pick on the other man for never trying the wines kyuhyun always bought by the airport or around the city, or whenever kyuhyun wanted to try some fancy italian restaurant but eunhyuk never joined him because of his sensitive stomach. either eunhyuk never joined him during their mealtimes or he ended up just watching kyuhyun devour his meal with ryeowook.
times have changed, and kyuhyun knows that eunhyuk's fairing pretty well in new york without him by his side. he knew FAME was eunhyuk's first shot at a broadway musical. he remembers eunhyuk slightly panicking not knowing what he should do to prepare, though he knew kyuhyun was there for him, and asked him for help.
luckily for kyuhyun, he had just finished catch me if you can and could still remember all the lines and routines he had to memorize.
late nights were spent on sm's dance hall even though kyuhyun and eunhyuk weren't exactly preparing for a variety show or for a music video. nonetheless the staff didn't bother when they ended up using the dance hall for a week straight because kyuhyun figured he needed more practice, judging from what he saw when the both of them sang an acapella version of sm the ballad's hot times for yahoo! music china with the rest of super junior-m with them.
eunhyuk wasn't too sure that a refresher on broadway acting could be done within a week, and kept asking kyuhyun to extend it. kyuhyun ended up treating him to dinner and reassuring him that it would all work out within a week and promised that if he needed any help preparing for his broadway musical, he'd always be there for him.
for kyuhyun, one week certainly went by too quickly. he wasn't too sure what eunhyuk thought of their refresher sessions, though.
kyuhyun slowly slips away from his reverie to realize that he hasn't even written anything about the majestic view that was before him. he quickly scribbles a bunch of weird adjectives, incoherent words and phrases and ends it with a bad drawing (he only had a blue pen with him, but i hate bringing too many pens with me, kyuhyun thinks otherwise) of it.

two days after his encounter with paris' nightlife by the cliff side and kyuhyun packs up his things to go back to seoul. his two week stay in paris made him think through a lot of things, mostly about eunhyuk and how much he misses him, generally. however he's made no decision to call him or send him a text, possibly because he didn't want to disturb his hyung during his practices or while he's resting, both of which take much of his time. kyuhyun knows how eunhyuk works down to the last step, all with precision and perfection.
he returns his rented car, and hails a cab to take him to charles de gaulle airport for his flight home. he knows he'll miss the place since he's taken up a bit of french from his fans and from the group's world tour, but also he loves the idea of just escaping to places he know he'll never live permanently in, even though he knows that he can and his family wouldn't mind at all.
after making his way past security check, and immigration, he finds himself walking through countless shelves of items from several duty free stores he doubts he'll ever see himself buy. he walks around aimlessly until he hears a radio announcement ultimately calling all the passengers who are on the same flight as him back home. he quickly buys himself a bottle of wine to remind him of this nostalgic stay in paris and rushes to the boarding gate.

kyuhyun always had a slight dislike for long-haul flights, especially because it always tends to end up hurting his back and making him so uneasy when he's trying to sleep in the middle of the night.
though he's glad he's landed safely in incheon airport because that he felt that flight took forever to reach korea.
he takes his bags by the conveyor belt and proceeds to the exit hall of the airport. on his way there, however, he hears a slight garble of his name behind him though kyuhyun doesn't pay attention; he thinks it's the fans but reassures himself that his clothes don't give him away.
he walks away from the source of the voice behind him only to feel someone tugging him by his right hand, the one that's pulling his bag. kyuhyun looks behind him, slightly annoyed at the rude attempt to call his attention but he suddenly forgets why he was angry in the first place when he sees eunhyuk right in front of him.
i thought you were in new york?, kyuhyun tells him blankly.
well, yes, i was. eunhyuk's english rolling off his tongue way easier than expected. although something came up, so i figured coming home for a while would do me good, his accent and language switching back to korean.
their conversation continues until they reached outside the airport, with eunhyuk asking questions such as where kyuhyun went and what did he do, just as kyuhyun would ask him how was his broadway debut in new york and did he like staying in new york (besides the fact that there was a huge improvement in eunhyuk's english).
i should definitely come over to your place to catch up on things, eunhyuk tells kyuhyun before the former left in his friend's car.
kyuhyun gave him an acknowledging nod in return as eunhyuk left and kyuhyun was on his own again.
kyuhyun was usually the type who would spend his days alone, other than the occasional outings with his kyu-liners and his hyungs who were done with their military service and are now spending time post-boy band era. then there are also those intimate times where kyuhyun feels he'd do just fine with eunhyuk with him in the former's house, just the two of them, catching up from where they had left off.
