(Cheating a bit 'cause I wrote this for the prompt "shot" over on FB. I might give yours some more thought too...)
Because they discharged their weapons at a higher-than-average rate, Devane decided Hunter and McCall should be re-certified on firearms at on a far-more-often-than-average basis, so, side by side on the Metro indoor shooting range, limbless black paper targets became riddled with bullet holes as the partners fired on pseudo-assailants. Glancing over at McCall’s target, Hunter knew he was going to lose their bet and dinner would be on him tonight; if there was one thing he knew about McCall, it was that her aim was true, and when she shot for the heart she never missed. His own heart skipped a beat as he imagined the after-dinner ribbing she’d give him about losing, but his injured ego was boosted at the thought of seeing her little Walther next to his H&K on the nightstand in the morning.
I was gonna quote my favorite bits, but then I realized that I'd be quoting almost all of it, and of course, the very last line is my favorite of all :)
