He found her standing on her toes and staring out beyond the walls of the Garden, just as Queen Lucy had done when they first arrived however long (or short) ago it was.
Jill turned at the sound of his footsteps and with a soft smile gracing a face that was slightly older than he remembered in the Narnia on the other side of the Stable Door, said, "Eustace and I had wondered what would happen if we were to die in Narnia--whether we'd come here to Aslan's Country or return to England in the same place we were before Aslan called us to rescue you."
Tirian stood next to her and looking at the buildings that made up the mysterious world of Spare Oom, took her hand in his and said, "It matters not where or when we met our end, fair Jill, for surely the Lion would have us all meet again here in his Country one day."
Tirian can spare no thought for his allies as he is swallowed by the chaos of battle; dodging left, sweeping low with his sword, striking fast, he is a rage of motion and a creature of instinct.
Then the stable is at his back, and with it, the grim certainty that fate awaits him and he will never see his companions again. Tirian can do naught but sell his defeat at high cost, and he pictures dear Jill with tears streaming, face turned from her bowstring, as he seizes the enemy and leaps through the door to meet his fate.
