Have you given a "hire" vote to anyone yet?
Whats the fact that makes them most hire-able?
Did you make anyone cry?

There isn't really a hiring vote like there is at other companies. It's more we all talk about that candidates weaknesses and strengths and then decide whether they're worth bringing back to talk to the VP of Eng who will then make the final decision. I personally thought 4/7 candidates we're qualified. We ended up bringing 3 back and will ultimately be hiring 2 of them.

People that are engaging and seem to know the answers instead of fumbling for the answers move to the top of my list. Also if you stand out in other ways it really helps. We asked a standard backup rotation question to all of the candidates. There was only one candidate who mentioned it would be a good idea to figure out what the retention policy is beforehand. The others may have known that but the focus from that candidate on such an important issue won her a lot of points and we're bringing her back to speak with the VP.

No one cried. But I did make one guy start sweating profusely when he froze up on the white board. See #3.
