SHE'S BACK!!!!
Oh my word, where to start?
We left 9 am on Saturday. The weather in Palm Springs was cool and foggy but as we approached Banning (I think), it was pouring. It was awful driving weather, especially in LA where there are no drains on the highways. We couldn't even see 10 feet in front of the car because it was so dark. Well, we arrived safely in LA around 11:30. The hotel was downtown and really nice too! It was the last day of the "Pac-10" some basketball tournament. It was so bad out we had to stay in the hotel all day. I bought some magazines, including the new Vanity Fair. I think they need to have more guys that I like on that cover. Atleast George Clooney. Well, I like Hugh Grant. And, just so I don't get shot--I like Ewan McGregor too.
I tried to sleep since I only got three hours of sleep the night before but I was so restless. Finally I did take a small nap (I think...) and woke up at two. I knew this was going to be the longest day ever. I'm not a big fan of hotel rooms and being trapped in one all day makes me feel claustraphobic. The first thing I always do is pull down the top cover. They never wash those. I don't touch it, or let my belongings touch it at all during my stay. I'm a germ FREAK. Especially in hotel rooms, restaurants, trains, planes, oh heck--everywhere! I went to the lobby to mail Olivia a postcard at her request but that took all of about five minutes. OKAY OKAY. Skipping ahead to the good part.
I called Mary to see when the latest I could call her was but she wasn't home. So I took at shower and got myself all pretty. I don't know how I did it, but my hair looked amazing. Seriously. We sent for our car and then I called Tiffany. She warned me that the theater was really hidden and to look out for Brooklyn Bagels. I knew what the theater looked like so we were okay. We headed off for the evidEnce room. Okay, Mary, and whoever else is going who might be reading this, it is practically in the Rampart Division. In case you are unaware of the scandels, it is the worst part of LA, totally sketch. Well we drive into the box of a parking lot. It is impossile to move in it. I saw Megan and Nick's car, a silver Range Drover. (I am not a stalker, I SWEAR.) Then a Jeep pulls up next to us and I realize it is the other party that Megan invited. First thing I see when I walked in was Willa. Okay okay, I have to admit, she's cute. We all meet Lori, who perhaps was just stressed because she didn't seem as nice in person. I saw Megan sitting, half back facing us. My heart skipped a beat. We follow her into the theater and she gives us a little tour of the sets and things like that. The two other people were sophomores at Boston University. Then we hiked up (literally hiked) into the seats. There was crap EVERYWHERE. It was such a mess. A bunch of crew members walk in and then Nick walks in. Let me just say, that he is NOT that bad looking. He seems a lot bigger on TV, but he *kind of* has a squished face. He picks up Willa and puts her over his sholders. Hunk-O-man. LOL. I get engaged in a loooong conversation with Ann, the costume designer. She tells me everything about the business, from schools, to sitcoms, to Paramount Pictures, to wigs...oh. Fun fact: Her husband wrote Batboy, the musical. They are hoping that it will debut on Broadway next year. She mentioned that it is coming out in German and Japanese and is really excited. After that, she talks to one of the other guys about resumes.
And then, the moment, I had been waiting for. Out of the corner of my eye, Megan comes in. I pretend not to see so I don't get all weird and excited. The first thing she does is hop up on to those steps (which are too high and far apart) and bends down at my seat to get to my height. Then she introduces herself with, "Hiiiii, I'm Megan." We shake hands and introduce ourselves and she asks where I'm from and I say Connecticut. She is surprised that I came all the way, but of course I HAD to. It's Megan we're talking about. She tells us that she hopes it won't be too boring for us. Then I tell her about how I was going to bring my drawing but sent it to her in the mail the morning I found out I wasn't coming. Then when I found out I actually was, I decided to bring the copy just to show her.
M: Wow! This is wonderful! You have a lot of talent!
S: Thanks!
M: So is this what you want to do?
S: Well, I want to be a fashion designer.
M: Great! So can I have this?
S: Well...no because this is a photocopy which I made marks on where I wanted to change things. But you'll get the original in the mail.
M: Okay. Thank you SO much!
She thanks us for coming again and says that she doesn't know what is going on right now, and she thinks they are all going to have dinner. She announces to all of us, "You know this is not going to be like Will & Grace right? Are you okay with that?" We assure her, yes it's fine. We are just happy to be there. Then the crew start eating take out right on the stage and Megan can't keep her hands off Nick. I tried not to stare because...uh that's weird. She kept hugging him and putting her arms around his neck and kissing him. Aww, they're in love.
Lori informs us that it isn't going to be a dress rehearsal tonight because Megan hadn't had a chance to try on the costumes yet. While they are eating I call Tiffany and let her know that they are running late. Then at about nine o'clock they start.
Cast in order of appearance:
Susan - Megan Mullally
Claire - Cheryl White
David - Nick Offerman
Wesley - Jason Adams
Megan: She started out talking too softly but adjusted to the role. She played a woman who was ignorant when it came to politics but after a reality check and a proposition from a new "friend", her views change and she wants to make a difference. Except it is hard when her husband is away at AA meetings and refuses to watch their baby. Her portrayl of Susan was excellent. I, unfortunately, have never seen The Pact so this was the first dramatic role I've seen her in. Her stretch of talent is unbelievable. I felt truly sorry for the things her character was going through and she played it off well.
Cheryl: She's got talent. She reminds me of Cynthia Nixon. She plays Claire, Susan's friend, who tries to engage Susan in politics. When she succeeds, she finds herself jealous of Susan's relationship with Wesley and hides a secret from Susan because of jealousy and greed. Claire is a character who needs self-assurance and confidence. Personally, I think Cheryl should go into comedy.
Nick: I love him. He looks the part of David, which I hope won't ruin his marriage to Megan. Haha. He plays Susan's ex-alcoholic husband who just wants sex. Nick is a wonderful actor. I wish he would be on TV more often. Okay there is this part in the show where David (Nick) wants sex and all Susan (Megan) wants to do is watch CNN. So Susan gives David a handjob under the blanket while she watches TV. I am SO convinced that Megan was giving him a real handjob. It was so funny...the way she was...bouncing..and the way he was talking at loss of breath. It's good acting, you might say. But I think it was real. They can't keep their hands off eachother. During a scene change, Nick had to hammer a table b/c it wasn't staying on and Megan kept rubbing his back and running her fingers through his hair. It was so cute!
Jason- When ever he messed up his line or started laughing, like when he knocked over his chair, he reminded me of Sean. But he's nothing like Sean. Jason play's Wesley, a reporter who wants to go to Afganistan to write a story about the Taliban's control over the country and the women's non-existant roles. I don't have much to say about him.
Each act was about 50 minutes. During "intermission", which was pretty long this time, I heard Tiffany come in the lobby. I wasn't really sure if I should go in because she was with Megan but I knew she wanted me to see her open her gift. So I went out to see she was holding Willa and I introduced myself and asked about the gift but she said Megan just put it away. I felt a little akward so I just went back in the theater. Before the second act, Megan said to us that she understands that is is boring and that we can leave if we want. Why would she think that? Well, it was nice of her to be so concerned about us.
After the play, I didn't really get the opportunity to talk to Megan because she was talking to the crew about notes or something. We thanked Lori and left. On the way out of the parking lot, Megan is standing outside on the corner. We drive up and pull my window down. Again, she said that she hoped is wasn't too boring and she told my grandma that she was really sorry if it was a little "dirty". We were like, nah it wasn't. Then we just congratulated her on everything. Oh yes this:
S: Oh, I wanted to ask you. Are you still planning on doing that east coast tour?
M: Well. We wanted to do it in May but aren't able to because of scheduling conflicts and things like that.
S: Oh.
M: But I do want to do it sometime! And on April 27th, I'm singing at a gala at the Kennedy Center.
S: (me thinking, right like I'm going to go to DC next) Oh, that's cool!
Then we parted and that was it. The most exciting event of my life. Just for the record, Megan is a very petit woman. And I have never seen anyone with more perfect and shiny hair. Yes, she did get new glasses. They are more...maybe more hexagon than the oval and square from before. She was wearing the same outfit as this picture, except for a sky blue Reebok track top. Her hair was also lighter and redder than this:
Here is rehearsal at the evidEnce room. L-R Megan, Jason, Cheryl. Except this picture was taken in the lobby, not the theater. You'll see Megan's purse at her feet. I love it. It doesn't show it in the picture, but it is black suede with tassels and zippers. Really cute.
Okay I have so much more to write about the next day in LA. I'm going to make it a seperate entry since this one is long.
I started this at 6:45 and it is now 7:50.
