can we do it in the third person, as in say writing it like their biography?

Does meta count? Also, can you do more than one character?

You do more than one character, but they will be added up, the points limit will still apply.

And yes, if you can make it fit the challenge (as in, giving a backstory to a character that doesn't canonically have one), then you can do meta.

Yup, but even then it will still only be 75 points total.

hahaha, now the complicated step of remember which characters backstory isn't actually canon and only fanon haha

What qualifies as not having a backstory? Like, most characters I know, basically all actually, have mentioned at one point in the show how they grew up, some thing that happened in their past etc. Can we still use these characters when we specifically concentrate on a different time period in their past or expand on them just saying 'I grew up on a farm' or something? For example, if they talked about something that happened during their twenties, can we still write something that happened when they were children (which never happened in canon)?

I'm just a bit confused as to what 'doesn't have a backstory at all' means.

It depends on how established that backstory is, I'd say. If it's just a throwaway line, then yes, feel free to use them and expand. If they have already been given an elaborated backstory in canon I'd be inclined to say that, no, they couldn't be used. The point is to invent a past for someone that doesn't canonically have (much of) one, if that helps?

Thanks. I found a character now who only has two tiny flashbacks that are not hers but for another character and they only pertain to her current canon, so we don't know anything about her past. I guess I just really like watching shows where characters already have background stories (actually, shows that are all about characters tend to have elaborate backstories and anything else doesn't interest me at all, so...). :)

Yay! Glad to hear you found something that works. :D And heh, I actually like it when my canons leave me with a few blank spaces to scribble in.
