Gakuen Alice drabble: Last Place
This idea had been in my head not too long ago, so I just decided to write this. You know, try to get back into the mood of er- writing.
Title: Last Place
Series: Gakuen Alice
Theme: Positions of a race
Summary: In an all-for-nothing derby, the only thing you can see are your opponents.
Last Place
Anticipation grew as each horse awaited the deciding count.
She already had the plan thoroughly dissected and mapped out in her head.
She would first take an early lead, sprinting far ahead from the other racers as possible. While she maintains her golden position, she would sneak a peek back at the dark-haired figure approaching from her right. With each closing stride and moments where he would appear to have passed by the side, she would prompt him into a seemingly tied race for the finish. And at that fleeting last second, with only a gallop of a difference, his eyes would finally be upon hers.
Not even Sakura-san would be able to deter his eyes. And all-the-better if she had both of them, the dark and the fair, wrapped firmly around her finger. But because she was very kind, only occasionally would she dangle that fact before her fellow jockey-bubbly in the gods’ most disgusting way.
The whistle blew as each horse mounted, dug their heels hard into the flaky soil, and took off from the opened stands without a backwards thought.
And before she could register the race had begun, she was already dead last. She could barely make out the dusty trails as they threatened to vanish from her sights completely.
And the realization finally dawned.
She was no contest.
She had long fallen from the race before the flags were even waved. Not once had "Sumire" been called out from the cheering crowd.
And it hurt, knowing she never had a chance from the beginning.
It was originally just planned for Sumire, but now I might do a whole set of these for other characters playing on the same analogy. We'll see.
I really just wrote it (at midnight too), so the writing is probably not in it's tip-top shape, but I really needed to get something out of head.
