1) The Mote in God's Eye - Larry Niven & Jerry Pournelle (These are hands down my favourite authors so it was difficult to pick which book of theirs I'd take with me. It was either this one - actually alien!aliens and true space opera - or Lucifer's Hammer - asteroid apocalypse and sensible survival strategies!)
2) The Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy - Douglas Adams (You can buy the whole trilogy as one bound book so it counts!)
3) Day of the Triffids - John Whyndam (Walking plants that eat people. Fantastic middle-class apocalypse)
4) Three to Conquer - Eric Frank Russell (The only one of his books I like but I really like it. The interesting situation of a lone telepath in society trying to not let the government find out about his powers, then aliens invade and only he knows about it)
5) Good Omens - Terry Pratchett & Neil Gaiman (Do I need to say why?)
6) The Book of Night With Moon - Diane Duane (An adult book in her Young Wizards series featuring cats as the protagonists. Far less twee than it sounds)
7) The Martians - Kim ( ... )
