If you buy CDs (digital or physical), which artist do you have the most albums by?

Well, that's easy: Die Ärzte. They're a German punk band and I've been a fan since I was... twelve? I think. I own pretty much every single album they ever released, some on actual CDs and some in digital form. My favourites are actually the CDs of their live concerts - they're brilliant live.

So I may have written a bit of a novel here. I might not be musical myself, but I love listening to music.

What era of music is your favorite? Why?
I have to admit, probably the most recent era - I am a huge fan of hard rock music and symphonic metal and I tend to gravitate towards things that are heavy on electric guitar, bass, and vocals. I also love electronic dance music because of the beat.

What are some of your favorite music artists or bands from the 50s? 60s? 70s? 80s? 90s? and 2000s? I’m not huge on 50s artists/bands, unfortunately, since I haven’t listened to a lot of them so I don’t have a lot of favorites from then ( ... )

I love the Phantom of the Opera! We did songs from the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical in choir, which got me to read the book and then look for all the movies. I'd listened to a bunch of the Rodgers and Hammerstein musicals as a kid, but Phantom got me into modern musicals.

We make time each Christmas to go see whatever's playing at the Kennedy Center. Some of them are good, some bad, but I honestly enjoy all of them.

I've been meaning to read the original Phantom novel for ages, but I keep forgetting about it since I have so many books to read. I had completely forgotten about Rodgers and Hammerstein until you brought it up, but I loved those musicals as well!

We used to do that with the local venue, though it was mostly the Nutcracker that I remember. Local shows are pretty darn cook. Do you have any particular favorites of the ones you've seen there?

The Light in the Piazza is my hands-down favorite, but Bright Star comes a close second.

What era of music is your favorite? Why?
It's cliche, but I really do love the 80s. Part of it is pure nostalgia - that's when I grew up and those are the songs that shaped my musical interests - but it's also just really FUN music. Upbeat, synthesizer-ridden pop, hair bands, monster ballads..what's not to love? XD

What are some of your favorite music artists or bands from the 50s? 60s? 70s? 80s? 90s? and 2000s?One of the nice things about having David Bowie as my favorite artist EVER is that he covers basically all these eras lol! From 1967 to 2016, he continuously demonstrated what it meant to be on the cutting edge of rock and roll. He reinvented himself - and his music - more times than I can count, but the one thing that remained the same was his commitment to pressing boundaries and leading the evolution of music as a whole. (And no, I'm still not over his death. Not even close ( ... )

I don't think I've met anybody who doesn't know, or sing along to Bohemian Rhapsody when they hear it, which I think could make me a tad lucky, I don't know what my reaction would be should it happen.

My flatemate and I used to sing along to Queen on the way to work - great way to wake you up in the morning. And it's always a laugh being stuck in traffic and Wayne's Worlding to Bo Rhap :D

Blackmore's Night! Hah! I discovered them on Pandora as well! I think they are amazing! It's hard to get your hands on music like that unless you are actually attending a Ren Fest (which I do as often as I can) :D

Within Temptation: I discovered them on YouTube and I adore them!! I love Sharon's vocals, I can just put them on a loop and listen for hours.

GAH, I am so long-winded, SORRY!!

How has your taste in music changed in the last year? Five years? Ten?
My early music taste definitely ran toward 80s and 90s pop and soft rock. Showtunes were also really big with me. (Lord, how many times did I listen to The Phantom of the Opera????) I didn't mind sad songs, but I hated anything dark and heavy. I also had very little tolerance for classical music, or almost anything non-vocal. Now my tastes definitely run toward harder rock and symphonic metal, and I've definitely gained an appreciation for music scores (mainly thanks to John Williams) and some classical composers. I still mainly dislike rap and country. That probably won't ever change XD

Do you think music has changed for better or worse over the years?I think music has become less innovative over the years, which leads me to feel rather empty when I listen to modern music. I think one of the biggest problems is that so many current artists don't play their own instruments or write their own music. The focus is on singing and ( ... )

Who's your favorite Phantom?

The focus is on singing and stage presence, which are of course important, but there's a connection between artist and music that I feel is lacking when they have no hand in creating their own work. Style over substance seems to be a popular trend, and I'm definitely not a fan.

I agree so much! I feel like it's a shame when a singer is in the news more because of their hair/outfit/dating life than the music they make, and it's even worse when they engineer it to happen that way. I understand that they're just trying to make a living with it and that different, extravagant and whatnot gets them attention which gets them more listeners/people who buy the music, but I always feel like it should be about the music first.

I agree with you about most modern pop music, but one of the reasons I love YouTube and BandCamp and other sites is that I can find musicians who are still flying under the radar. Maybe they're not sexy enough to get a big label deal, but they're good enough and honest in the music they're making.

I sang in choir in college, but it was more laid-back than I wanted. Then again, I didn't have time for the competition a capella group at that point, either. I've thought about getting back into it since then, but life keeps getting in the way.

Ah yes, most of the girls wanted to be sopranos! There were only four of us in second alto -- I definitely didn't have the range for soprano, but my low range was great -- but we held our own. I really think some of it is the mindset. Altos have to be able to pick out the harmony parts instead of the melody, so a lot of people find the soprano parts easier to hear in their mind.
