Paintings in Juried Show

May 10, 2005 09:51

I entered three oil paintings in a juried art show, and all three paintings were accepted! It is an all horse art show at the Horse Expo in Sacramento, California June 10-12.  Here are the paintings, just back from the framer. All are 16" x 20".

They are wonderful, I can see why they all got into the show! Woo Hoo! Are you taking them or shipping them?

Sheila, I am attending a Susan Sarback landscape workshop in Sacramento next week so I will take the paintings with me and deliver them to the Horse Expo office. I won't be there for the actual Horse Expo show, though, as it's in June and I'd have to turn right around and go back to Sacramento ten days later.

The paintings will get shipped back to me after the show unless someone buys them!

Congratulations Caren how exciting, it will be an exhibit of a body of your work :) My most favorite is the Pinto (am I right?), love the contrast!

Erika, I like the pinto, too. Pintos are like art on four legs, I'm always attracted to the contrasts and patterns.

And yes it will be a small "body" of work, I'm really glad all three got in (there was a limit of three per category--categories were oil, watercolor, photography, etc.) because I think it's important to see more than one example of your work.

Caren, I hope trhe show brings in other opportunities too, it's really an impressive group there. I am wondering if you use strictly knives? Or do you get in some brush there too? Does Susan discourage brush use?

I only paint with the palette knife so far. When Susan is teaching, she doesn't let anyone use a brush. She gets asked if she ever uses a brush, and her answer is that she uses a brush more for practical reasons, such as covering a very large canvas with paint. She also has used a brush to paint an area where she doesn't want much texture, such as a large area of sky. But I'd say that her paintings are more often than not 100% knife.

I admire brush strokes in paintings, but I have gotten very comfortable with the knife and I hate cleaning brushes!
