Judy, it's amazing how it takes a disaster for the wheels to start turning in any kind of government preventative action. The complacency and short sightedness is stunning.

I never had the opportunity to visit New Orleans, but always figured I would 'one of these days'. Now I'm saddened I never made more of an effort to go. I'm fascinated by old historical architecture and the culture and times it reflects, which I know New Orleans was chock full of. I'm sure it will be very much altered now....

Patience,

New Orleans is never an easy place to get to, and it's understandable how one might have a "one of these days" mindset. If I hadn't been there because of the horse racing business, I doubt I ever would have seen it because it's so out of the way.

Maybe after the place gets back on it's feet (years from now??) we can all make an effort to go there and experience the culture, food, and architecture.

I live in a little town called Breaux Bridge. I live 2 hours from New Orleans... Reading your experience of New Orleans touched me. I feel the same about the culture. I know many things will not be the same , but I believe New Orleans will live on with the sound of music and Joie de vive. :) My daughters and I have spent many fond memories in New Orleans. Thanks again for the all the good things you said about Louisiana. Have a great day!
