Almost a month later, I'm still on a high from this race! In my living room, I screamed my self hoarse, jumping around like a loon, I wished I weren't 3000 miles away or else I would have loved to have been there!!
I was only 3 in 1977 so I did not truly understand what the Ruffian vs. Foolish Pleasure was all about, I have a very vague memory of watching, and although most of what happened was way over my head, I did understand that a horse had died. Watching the film last month was painful - even though I don't think it was the most well-done horse movie.
During a visit to Belmont in 2000 it was cool not just to see Secretariat's statue, but to get a glimpse of Ruffian's final resting place.
