Thoughts on classes

As you might or might not know, I'm currently working full time and also taking classes. It's both easier and harder than being a full time student. Easier, because classes are sort of a sideline to what I mostly do, which makes it easier for me to deal with them. Harder, because it means I have that much more to do: on top of the usual ( Read more... )

Do the classes you are taking apply to your job? IE, are you likely to use the knowledge you'e gaining to benifit your employer?

My take on it is - if they're benefiting your employer, I wouldn't think you'd have to make up time. If they're NOT providing a measureable benefit to your employer, then I'd say it falls under the 'personal development' side of things, and you morally ought to make up the time.

As for legality... check with your boss and/or a lawyer-friend. I just teach math - no handing out legal advice for me!

On a random note... are you going to the HS reunion this year? I can't make it - I'm a HS teacher (for real now! Life is good!), and thus have to teach until two days before... and I'm NOT going to fly the day before (because that's a miserable day to fly on), and it's a day-long flight 'cross country anyway. I wish it were scheduled for sometime in the summer so I'd have a chance of getting to see everyone again...

It's sort of an odd situation: the classes don't directly apply, but part of the agreement when I took the job was that I would continue working towards my degree, and they would give me time to take classes. Of course, that's not written down anywhere, but that's because this is a state job. So... it's benefiting my employer in the sense that I'm supposed to have a degree to have this job, but it's not a direct benefit.

As the the HS reunion... I didn't know there was one! When is it?

*mmm* Since it's a grey area, go ask your boss. Tell him you're trying to do the right thing, but you want to make sure you know what that is!

Reunion's supposed to be the day after THanksgiving. I dunno where, 'cause I can't go!

(I teach that wednesday. I AM going to spend thanksgiving with my family! Especially since I (finally) moved out of my parents place last month. I canNOT get there on time if I leave that day... it's a full day trip out there... and I have personal commitments that saterday and sunday here at home.) I wish they'd have them during the summer, when it would be *possible* for me to get out there!
