Summary: In which Arthur has to choose between a book or the Japanese boy.
English lessons were usually one of Arthur’s favourite lessons, or at the very least, a lesson that managed to get his undivided attention.
There was nothing quite like the literature lessons in the classroom, the ability to sink back into something that resembled proper literature, resembled the greats like Shakespeare and Dickens and Bronte. Not the usual typical garbage that the American presses spurned out. Like all the teenage garbage. The real writers had all died, or on the verge of extinction and Arthur would much rather bury himself in the fantasy worlds of a time long ago.
The English class was usually organised, usually quiet and calm. However, the teacher was late and the class had taken the opportunity of the five or so minutes that they had to themselves as a time that they could gossip at unbelievably loud levels, throw paper aeroplanes around and generally be as loud, annoying and disruptive as they possibly could.
Arthur rolled his eyes in annoyance, before pulling a book out of his bag and settling into his chair. He glanced around the classroom once, just daring anyone to ask why he was reading when he had no need to. He shot one glance at the person next to him, an Asian lad with a bowlcut. He didn’t look loud but if he disturbed him from his well-thumbed copy of Great Expectations, then Arthur would have no hesitation in giving him a firm punch.
And that went to anybody else who disturbed him.
Sighing in satisfaction, he turned his eyes to the page and started reading, ignoring the noise, the paper aeroplanes and the horrendous laughter from a gaggle of people in the far corner.
