I totally agree with you Carissa. I'm sort of glad that I don't know what happened to the characters. She'll left so much open that the fandom can go on for years.
Can you imagine if she had tied everything up? Not only would we have no more books, but most likely it would be the end of the community that we've grown to love and hate at the same time.
Exactly. As it is, I've seen a lot of fic already (some of it is even GOOD!), not to mention a lot of interesting discussion. Maybe if she ever gives us the Enciclopedia, we'll know more. For now, I'm happy with the room she left us to play with. :)
Being one of the very smart people you are referring to, I of course agree with what you say.
After all, I am a sheep.
I think it's lovely knowing that JKR wrote this epilogue first--or was it one of the first things--she wrote when writing HP. Like you said, this brings everything full circle, as does everything in DH--I loved how so many things in DH harkened back to PS/SS--the "Are you a wizard or not?" and so on.
Best of all, we have bald Draco. That right there is just the most brilliant thing I could ever have imagined happening to that little bastard.
The epilogue is what brought the series full-circle. Harry has finally seen his deepest desire fulfilled. He's got a family, and he belongs, and the world is peaceful. That's all we really need to know.
WORD! Seriously, I skipped to the epilogue during my second reread today and it gave me the same sense of calm and happiness. Things are FINALLY okay for Harry. He has a "normal" life and THAT should be what counts. Not, like you said, what everyone is doing for their career and who lives where, etc.
If Jo tells us any of that information in an interview Q&A or eventually in the encyclopedia then great, if not, then we have FF to "fill in the blanks". Thanks for making this post. You're right on!
She said something about the trio's professions on the Today show this morning. Yay! Harry and Ron apparently transformed the Auror division, and Hermione was high up in (I'm not sure about this part, because it wasn't very clear) magical law enforcement. Harry particularly surprised me.
I wonder if people will like the epilogue more after they get some answers to their questions? I don't have much faith though.
Yay for more info (though it didn't surprise me at all that it was one of the first things she clarified). This is why it's so ridiculous to have expected her to put every possible bit of follow-up info in an epilogue. Did you see this? Especially where she says:
Rowling said her original epilogue was “a lot more detailed,” including the name of every child born to the Weasley clan in the past 19 years. (Victoire, who was snogging Teddy - Lupin and Tonks’ son - is Bill and Fleur’s eldest.)
“But it didn’t work very well as a piece of writing,” Rowling said. “It felt very much that I had crowbarred in every bit of information I could … In a novel you have to resist the urge to tell everything.”

Probably why he only has one kid, if you know what I mean.

I totally agree. Now, which one of you is going to write a good H/G and R/Hr post-DH, pre-Epilogue fix.
*sets herself up for a nice, long read*

At least some of us *get* this! :)
