So pleased your bathroom ceiling dodged the bullet.

I'm a great believer in 'random stuff', but I also subscribe to the sod's law theory that the day after you finally decide you can get rid of _that_ random bit of stuff (that you've never used) is the day you will need it. You turn round to reach for it and, uh-oh, remember you took it to the tip yesterday.

Yes, exactly. I'm steeling myself to dispose of stuff that I've already got plenty of - like pine shelving units. The truth is that if you dismantle them, the slats are excellent for building stuff - like bespoke shelving units, beds or sofas. but I threw one out because I have about 4 in the roof dismantled already. :)

When we moved here (34 years ago) we intended to bring a whole load of that kind of stuff from the old house, but moving day got complicated and we never had time to clear the garage completely, so ended up leaving it behind. Within a few years we had another stockpile. I love the idea of upcycling or even sideways-cycling, but sadly it doesn't always happen like it should.
