Clearing the roof

What's been flooring me is the amount of stuff that's still in my parents' roof from the 70s and earlier. My mother seems to have kept a lot of our childhood toys for a start. I suppose that she may have felt that it was our decision to get rid of them or not but, seriously - I'm talking wooden kiddicraft toys, plastic rattles and the like. It's ( Read more... )

Thankfully my Dad didn't keep all that much, but still there were some surprises like the paintings I'd done around age 9 or 10 that I used to have up on the wall of my bedroom at the first house I remember living in.

Thanks. It's been 2 months now since my father moved into the home, so it's been a busy period but not too hectic. Thankfully I've not had any other responsibilities or it would have been pretty overwhelming.

Given that I was 13 when we moved in, my mother had obviously held onto stuff that she just put in the roof and probably forgot was there. The roof is long and narrow (4-bed bungalow) and though there's no space for doing much there's loads of storage space between the rafters and things tended to get shoved towards the edges if they weren't needed often.

Photographing everything is a great idea! I think it's great that we live in an age where it's so cheap and easy to take digital images of things. Although of course, maybe in the next age over they take digital 3d copies of everything...
