funeral celebration

Which sounds like a contradiction, but really isn't. There were 9 of us there on Friday, including 3 from the home and it all went a bit quicker than I anticipated and we were done in about 20 mins. My sympathies on your loss, both the immediate physical one and the earlier, slower one to Alzheimer's. It seems like you all handled both with as much dignity, grace, and kindness as possible.

Even when the decline is slow and death is the only possible outcome, it still takes some adjusting to. Probably more so in your case because until fairly recently you were responsible for your father's care.

I'm glad the funeral went well and that it gave you a chance to reflect and remember the time before his illness had changed him so much.

A good funeral can be a celebration of a life, and I'm glad to hear that it sounds as if that's what you were able to have for your dad.
