Okay, so I started talking to somebody online through a site that I recently joined. According to the data on the site he lives on the opposite coast from where I live. Anyway, as the conversation continued he said he needed to go, so he asked me for my cell phone number so that maybe we could text back and forth. I gave it

I think it's fine, provided you don't pay a fee per text :-). I mean, what's the risk? If you want to end the connection, you can ask him not to text you anymore. If you're meeting someone you don't know anything about other than what he says online, it's worth taking some precautions, but texting or phone calls? I think the only thing you risk is annoyance.
