although I do think his comments were taken out of context, especially when yesterday he said that he'd trade all of his post season records for a trip to the world series. He knows it's important.
Of course they were taken out of context to a certain extent. As soon as I saw them in the Post, though, I ran over to the Globe, because I knew they were going to get big play there. The fuller quotes were almost healthy, and a sense of proportion may actually help an athlete avoid a case of the post-season yips. Bottom line: if the Sox win out and Manny keeps hitting like Manny, most will be forgiving.
For me, it's not the quotes that bother me, it's when the Mind of Manny wanders off somewhere during a game and it costs his team. That's why I was very happy when the Yankees didn't trade for him. I would have been happier if they'd grabbed Big Papi, of course, but you can't have everything :)
