I have problems with excema on my hands, which causes bleeding from my gross scratching. I'm familiar with the embarrassment -- it's exponentially worse than the severity of the source.

You covered all my suggestions, except fancy finger band-aids. Have you tried Acvitv-flex by Band-Aid brand? I've used them with great results on fingers with bad cat scratches. They're water-proof because they seal all around the edge, plus the joint bendiness you maintain is quite impressive. Or have you tried using liquid band-aid stuff? A guy I knew had to get stitches up one or more of his fingers and the doctor used it on him. I've never tried it though, since I'd probably be tempted to pick at it.
