Dear Trick or Treat Author,
Hello, and happy Halloween! I'm Carly, thecarlysutra on AO3, and this is my third year doing Trick or Treat.
I am happy with fic or art, and I am happy with tricks or treats. Gimme what you got!
DNWs: animal harm/death, body horror, gore, rape, asylums/institutionalization unless it's in canon (Channel Zero), the characters I've requested dying, graphic descriptions of suicide or self-injury, "she was crazy the whole time!" twists
I love stories. They are my favorite thing. I love all kinds of stories, but my favorites tend to be character driven. They have dialogue and small moments that illustrate relationships or grow characters, not just move the plot along. I love small character details. I want to know the perfume the Deer Lady wears. I want to know what Ray Levoi dreams about when they're not visions. I want everything. You cannot give me too much.
I love found families, and close relationships both romantic and non. I love all the different kinds of love the Greeks had that are all in Tumblr gifsets now. I love people loving each other and enjoying each other's company. It's fucking great, okay? It's the best thing.
I love hurt/comfort (and its cousin, sexual healing) and sudden! intimacy tropes like arranged marriage, fake dating, and "there was only one bed!" I love soulmate stuff, especially soulmarks. I love humor and softness and competence and sexiness and playfulness. I love happy endings. It's not a requirement because of the nature of this challenge, but I do love them.
For art: I love all different styles of art, honestly. My own style tends toward representational with high saturation and high contrast, but I am often most affected by artists whose styles are completely different than mine. It opens my eyes to a new perspective, one I never would have thought of myself. I like small, soft moments between characters. I like intimacy of all kinds: casual touching, sharing a secret or a bed, kissing, sex. I love little comics with jokes or the characters forcing a reaction from each other. I like comics art and I like photorealistic digital (or actual) painting, and most things in between. I know this isn't as helpful as the prompts I've left for authors for each fandom, but I know less about this, and I really just want to assure you that any art you make of any of the characters I've requested is going to put me over the moon.
And now for some info on my requests:
Thunderheart (1992)
- Ray Levoi
- Walter Crow Horse
- Ship: Walter Crow Horse/Ray Levoi
Tricks: I would prefer this not be an AU. What I mean is: please bring in supernatural or horror elements, but please bring them into the world of the film. (Preferably post-film.) I am eight million percent here for Ray Levoi and Walter Crow Horse hunting werewolves or dealing with a haunted house, etc. I would love to see Ray's visions develop into more psychic abilities; please please PLEASE use that to make things scary. If you want to do a ghost story, remember that Maggie Eagle Bear was based on a real person who died for her cause, and tread gently.
Treats: I love Ray and Walter and I love them together doing basically anything. I love them working a case, and I love them embroiled in domestic fluff. If you don't ship them, you could write me some backstory on either character. I'm particularly interested in Ray's time working deep cover.
Channel Zero (TV)
- Zoe Woods
- Luke Vanczyk
- Louise Lispector
- Izzy Marcus
- Alice Woods
Tricks: What I really want from this request is exploration of the relationships between these characters, or the characters working as a family and a team. (For the record, Zoe is my favorite character, so if you want to focus on her, that's awesome, but I so love the little family she finds with Luke, Louise, and Izzy.) This family is already 100% equipped to fight monsters or the supernatural. Maybe they stay in Butcher's Block and find there's still evil even though the Peaches are gone. Maybe they move for a fresh start and, whoops, they now live in a haunted house. Whatever it is: They deal with it. Together.
Treats: Again, what I really want from this request is more about the little family Zoe finds with Luke, Louise, and Izzy. You can show them doing ANYTHING and I will love it. Maybe they're getting Izzy ready to go to school, or they're trying to make a tricky recipe together. I don't care. I love them.
Gunpowder Milkshake (2021)
- Florence
- Scarlet
- Madeleine
- Sam
- Anna May
- Emily
Tricks: These are people who are 100% prepared for the zombie apocalypse or fighting demons; whatever you've got, they'll handle it. I don't have a favorite character or pairing, really, but I would really like to see at least some of the girls working together. I'd love to see some fright night slasher try to break into their house and not realize until it's too late what a horrible mistake he's made.
Treats: I'd love more about the part of Sam's childhood that was spent in the library. But really, I will love anything with these women being together and working together.
Crossover Fandom: Gunpowder Milkshake/Jolt (2021)
- Lindy Lewis (Jolt)/Sam (Gunpowder Milkshake)
Tricks: TELL ME THESE GIRLS WOULDN'T BE PERFECT FOR EACH OTHER. Oh man, these are not girls to mess with. Have monsters or slashers or the supernatural try, and be knocked on their asses.
Treats: I would love any exploration of this dynamic.
Crossover Fandom: The Old Guard/Close
- Andy (The Old Guard) /Sam Carlson (Close)
Tricks: You cannot tell me that Andy has never taken a lover, and you cannot tell me that Sam wouldn't be perfect for that. These are women who will not flinch in the face of … well, much of anything, but I'd love to see how they fight off horror movie mainstays and then blow off steam afterwards.
Treats: Any exploration of this pairing, how it works, how they fit together, would be amazing.
Reservation Dogs (TV)
Tricks: I am sooooooo interested in the Deer Lady, and I'd love to know more about her. If you look at her a certain way, she's kind of monstrous, and that's definitely worth inspection. I'd love to see her in action.
Treats: It's not all work and no play. The Deer Lady has other stories, surely.
