from what I know about hair, you shouldn't relax your hair before you get braids because it makes it easier for them to slip out or for your hair to break off. The woman who puts my braids in always suggested I get a relaxer two weeks to a month before I put braids in to avoid the above mentioned problems. If your sister doesn't believe you then just say you want the opinion of the hairdresser.

Haha, I don't know how nappy your hair is though so it could be different for ya. Usually dominicans know how to do hair so hopefully your sister won't mess you up too much.
