Distance? It takes two for that to happen but Prairie keeps me updated on the major things that happen to you. I've got some major boot strap pulling to do.
Just tell immigration that you two are engaged and then you and your girlfriend can frollock for a whole month!
and keep in mind that Ron Paul has less than 1% support according to polls so I really don't think he'll pull enough ahead for Iowa on Thursday. It is sad that even near 1% of our nation can back his way of thinking but luckily everyone is more comfortable supporting stupid (Bush) rather than crazy. Remember Ross Perot? That's crazy.
I'm on my way back home now so maybe i'll see you this weekend!!!

Hi Christian,
Thanks to your recommendation, I have begun to explore Thoreau's work once again. You were right. It is meaningful and philosophical. But beyond that, it is inspirational. I feel a renewed sense of purpose, affirming the value of good, honest, hard work. I can't think of a better way to encourage myself and my students than with Thoreau's words, quoted above.
I hope you're having a wonderful break. Any plans for New Year's eve?
thanks for posting this in your journal! i really wanted to post this in my journal, citing you, but wanted to ask your permission prior to doing so. in fact, i'm going to run with my interpretation of this sign and go ahead and post it anyway! thanks, noah!
this is the coolest piece of writing i've read in a long time, and echoes my feelings on paul.
what an eloquent, sophisticated way to say FUCK RON PAUL.
I feel like a jerk for not responding to thispneuma14June 27 2009, 08:44:00 UTC
...since it's kind of disrespectful. I mean, I blab on and on about libertarianism on my journal, but then I don't respond to your thoughts on the subject. Which are very valid. So I figured better late than never - here's my response.
Secondly, it makes no sense to close our borders when our country is so economically linked to the rest of the world. I agree. It's actually the one part of Ron Paul's platform that I never really understood. In fact it's very anti-libertarian, since many libertarians favor open borders, as it increases the freedom of people to immigrate. I remember once hearing RP explain that he felt like immigration laws could be loosened if there weren't so many entitlements to encourage them to come here, but frankly I felt like it was kind of a cop-out

This will surely make other countries hate us, even more so than they currently do. And despite Dr. *cringe* Paul's non-interventionist foreign policy, there will be no stopping other countries from invading our own.
It seems to me that most countries hate us precisely because of our interventionism, rather than lack of it. (Paul sees both foreign aid and foreign wars as kinds of interventionism.) Isn't that what the 9/11 Commission Report said - that al-Qaida was spurred on by the presence of US bases in Saudi Arabia? Also, if isolationism actually led to hatred from other countries, then wouldn't Switzerland be in everyone's crosshairs right now?
As we all know (or do we?), Thomas Jefferson wrote in the Declaration of Independence that our inalienable rights are "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." The key word, I believe, in that sentence is "pursuit." We are not handed happiness.
I totally agree. This point was argued by Ayn Rand in The Virtue of Selfishness to make the case for non-intervention by government in
