This was lovely and gorgeous and just so...so bittersweet. The way the words flowed effortlessly into each other, and the whole tone of it. And the scenery. ::sighs:: It was really, really quite lovely.

Thank you so much! I'm glad you found the words flowed effortlessly, because writing them sure wasn't effortless for me or my beta, hahahah.

This: Remus frowns at “we”, but his mother is closely examining a smaller arrangement and does not see.
And then this: Remus misses Father suddenly, in a brief, wrenching, visceral way that he has not felt in some time.
Then you added the intrigue of the mysterious letter from Sirius to Remus' mother:
Remus unlaces his fingers from his mother’s and moves to take the letter, but the owl jerks its leg back, clicking its beak once with distaste. Then, it extends its leg towards Mother.
Mother reads the letter in silence. There is a single line between her eyes.

Remus is rolled onto his side so that he does not see it, even from the corner of his eye.
From the direction of the house there comes a voice, faintly. Remus thinks it is his mother’s. He wishes he could stop his ears from hearing and his mind from imagining and feels vaguely miserable.
Here again, you have me thinking that Remus is just missing his father and acknowledging this marriage is just one more way to let go of him and Remus doesn't want that: The voice again, louder this time. It is definitely his mother. Remus bites his lip and tries hard to not think unreasonable, petty, jealous thoughts about his stepfather. She deserves ( ... )

As a matter of fact, I think you have Remus' mum pegged better than I ever did. She does seem the type to latch on to anyone she can for comfort after losing John, whom I imagine was the love of her life. How many stepfathers, indeed!
Thank you, thank you, thank you! You have been a wonderful inspiration, and I finally feel like I'm up to writing that R/S Big Bang fic now. :)
