I don't think I'm going to get particularly fannish about it, but it's entertaining. Right now I'm a bit puzzled what they did to Athelstan to make him lose the endearingly lost scruffy puppy look.
It doesn't seem to have much of a fandom. What attracted my attention was how beautifully shot the series is. Oh, poor Athelstan goes through quite a bit of change. Wait till you see season.2
Athelstan needs to cut out the weird Viking mushrooms. Srsly. But he's got such a pretty case of Stockholm syndrome going. *g*
They played nicely on Christian and Nordic symbolism, that much is for sure. And they did a fairly good job on the mythology/legend side of things.
Now if only they can stop raiding that poor, poor village every two episodes, especially when it gets to the point where Ragnar raids his own village...
