Summary: Yamapi and Shige have small talk while drinking.
"Michael Jackson," Yamapi wagged his index finger, his head bobbing up and down. "MJ is definitely the person to admire."
Shige let out a small laugh. "I think Michael Jackson is on almost everyone's idols list, Yamashita-kun." He spun a little in his bar stool, his eyebrows in a crease, before saying, "Oh, I got one. Sakurai Sho-kun. Guy's got a good head on his shoulders."
"You just want to say he's smart like you," the older man smirked, signaling to the bartender who immediately refilled his glass. "Since we're talking sempais now, I'd say Takizawa-kun. He taught me so much about work and life in general."
"Ah, that's a good one there," Shige nodded his agreement. He took a sip of his drink, noticing from a glance at his watch that they had been there for over an hour. Time really seemed to fly every time he and Yamapi had a get-together, which is already rare enough considering the latter's impossible schedule. "Speaking of sempais - Nishikido-kun."
"Really?" a smile broke on Yamapi's face upon the mention of one of his best friends.
"Yeah, of course. I look up to him a lot. And he plays the guitar like nobody's business." Shige did a bit of air guitar by way of demonstration, eliciting a laugh from Yamapi's lips. Perhaps the drinks have begun to get to them.
"And it's not just him, though," Shige continued, "Yamashita-kun too."
"Now, you're just flattering me," Yamapi dismissed it all with a wave of the hand.
"No, no, no, I really do admire you. I mean, ask anyone in NEWS who they admire within the group and the majority will say you. Yamashita-kun is..." Shige tilted his glass in his hand, searching for the right words. "- a hardworker. You put all you got into what you're doing, and it shows."
Yamapi modestly looked down, but not without a hint of pleasure in his face. They were both quiet for a while, watching the bartender shake and spin bottles with an acrobatic skill. Then Yamapi turned to his fellow band mate and said, "You know who else I think is really cool?"
"Who?"
"You." The word was accompanied with a firm stare, an intense gaze that seemed able to penetrate straight into the soul. It made a sharp contrast with Shige's spontaneous reaction: a loud snort. "Okay, now you're really teasing me, aren't you?" he said, lifting both hands in surrender.
"Hey, come on, what makes you think I'm not serious? I felt it most recently a few months ago, during 24 Hour TV." Yamapi's eyes looked far into the distance, into a memorable moment in the past. "When I saw how hard you practiced for the steel pan, and then the look on your face when you were playing it... It's kakkoii. There's no other word for it."
This time Shige had no smart quip to offer. He merely gulped his drink again, trying to suppress the awkward smile on his lips. Yamapi stared at him and asked, "Are you blushing?"
"No."
"You are! Shige is so cute ne~" Yamapi put out a hand and ruffled Shige's hair, instantly making the latter squirm with embarrassment. The sound of Yamapi's warm laughter filled the air for a long while.
