Kio's beginnings stem from a very peculiar familial situation in which his home was dominated by and limited to women; his only known family was a grandmother, his mother, and his wife and child. For reasons unknown, he seemed to have been the only male living in the Kaidou household, which was otherwise restricted to female residency; this gave him little to no say over his placement in family matters, and he himself seemed to know very little of his own past due to the limited information disclosed to him. The family views him as a weak man that must be protected, and use such logic to justify retaining information from him.
The very birth of his daughter, Shikiko, was a mystery to Kio. She is close to his own age - no more than ten or so years younger - and she was born without his knowledge, at a place he did not know. The responsibility of parenthood was one he clearly was not prepared for, and their personalities do not seem to mesh well, partially due to Kio's discomfort with his relation to her. In addition to their out of sorts relationship, Shikiko was granted the position of head of household at the moment of birth, and so he is to answer to the girl as his superior. He holds an air of respect and admiration for his wife, Shieko, however; their union was likely for convenience rather than love, though, considering Kio's wandering interests.
Kio no longer resides at the Kaidou household; he claims that the family drove him out, his daughter insists that he simply ran away. In any case, he eventually made his way to art college and took residence in the dorms there.
It was at college that he met Soubi Agatsuma. After falling in love with the other's art, taking great admiration in his style and skill, he made a personal goal to meet him - but he quickly realized, he had become far more fascinated by his bandages than his painting. It bothered his nurturing instincts, and he felt the need to get closer to the other man so that he could help him. Though he knew it selfish to befriend him for such a reason, and unfair to doubt him from the very beginning, he still pressed on despite the other's discouragement - and through his persistence, they became good friends. In fact, he became Soubi's first and only friend.
Kio took to caring for Soubi when the man neglected himself, especially so after the death of Seimei. Serving as a strong moral support for the other and tending to his wounds, his fondness for the other only grew as their friendship progressed. He often flirts with and makes passes at Soubi, and is quite open about his attraction to him.
Once Kio learned of his friend's involvement with Ritsuka, he had grown quite jealous, and became skeptical of the child's intentions, as he was convinced that the young boy was similar to his abusive older brother, whom he deeply hated for his mistreatment of Soubi. It wasn't until he met the child in person while taking Soubi to the Seven Voice Academy to face Septimial Moon that his fears were eased - and that he admitted his gratitude for the boy's involvement of making Soubi 'human' again.
While at the academy, Kio was captured by Nisei and held hostage by Bloodless, as a means for Seimei to achieve what he wanted after Beloved unleashed their attack upon the school. Though belittled by his captors, Kio was unfazed in comparison to what came after: a strange visitor came to him, whom one could mistake to be his twin, and referred to him as 'Big Brother Kio'. Stunned by this, he retreated home to seek information about this previously unknown individual, but his inquisitions were evaded.
Abilities: Canonly, he does not seem to possess any super abilities; rather, he appears to be an exuberant but otherwise normal guy who had unexpectedly been swept up into something far greater than himself. Denied answers to the many questions that he had regarding not only the events that he had been dragged to, but his own past as well, he discovered that he knew far less about his placement in life than he previously thought.
Feeling overwhelmingly insignificant, he will be entering Alderbourn in pursuit of a new, simpler life. One that he feels that he may retain some control over. Securing his decision, Soubi had agreed to go along with him, providing him with a sense of comfort as he would be incapable of leaving his lonely friend behind for multiple reasons.
Items they will be bringing: Kio will be taking belongings that one may find typical of a college art student. Personal belongings such as clothing, accessories, and hygienic products - as well as his variety of art supplies and books. One also cannot neglect to mention that he has a small collection of piercing tools, naughty paraphernalia, and the remainder of that six pack of beer that he just couldn't bring himself to toss out. All technology will be left at home, as requested.
Personality: Kio could easily be described as an up-beat, fun-loving, and fairly flamboyant man. Forward and quite honest, he isn't afraid to touch topics that most people wouldn't dare address, and he's the sort to champion pacifism and self-worth. Such sincere, caring, and goodhearted nature enables him to get along with others with ease.
Not everything about Kio is good and pure, however; he does maintain a devious streak within him. With an apparent obsession for body art (He has seven piercings on either ear, a star tattoo on his right ring finger, and another of a large tribal-style Japanese flower extending over his entire back. Is there more? We can't now for sure!), does nude modeling in his spare time, has no qualms against streaking, enjoys his alcohol, and has an apparent appreciation for yaoi. He is also quite open about his affections for Soubi and will make open passes at him often, sometimes in the most perverse fashions. Sexual innuendos are common in his speech.
Among his aforementioned quirks, Kio has a habit of creating nicknames for people, particularly using the suffix '-chan'. Also, it is a rare occurrence to catch sight of Kio without the stick of a Chupa Chup sucker dangling out of his mouth.
Writing Sample:
With a grumble, Kio swung closed the cabinet door. "You said you had food, Sou-chan," he called over his shoulder to the doorway behind him. "So where is it?"
Sure, he had things like old ketchup bottles and a few cans of chili, but that wasn't anything worth eating on its own. They needed something of substance for dinner! With a sigh, he rolled his sucker across his tongue and into the downward slope of his little frown. An open beer can dangling from the fingertips of the arm that swung by his side, he raised a hand to dig into his messy green locks as he trudged across the kitchen.
"Maybe we should just go out, huh?" Placing a hand against the counter, he crossed his legs over and took a swig at the alcohol while awaiting a response from Soubi. It was then that he realized that his fingertips were nudging paper away from the tiled edge, though, and with a curious glance, his eyes made contact with a suspicious envelope among the stack of neglected, unopened mail. And a familiar letter.
Setting the can aside, he bobbed the now beer-and-strawberry flavored lolly between his lips as extracted the envelope from the other unimportant notices. His friend had mumbled a response to him through the open doorway, but that had gone unnoticed; Kio's mind was instead attempting to wrap around the likelihood of the two receiving similar letters.
With some thought, it was decided that it wasn't all that strange. It was just an advertisement; junkmail. Everyone probably got one. (Never mind that it mentioned things like powers and all that, as though it was a topic applicable to everyone.) Sure, the letters might've made him consider checking the place out, but that was the entire point of the thing, wasn't it? To make the idea sound like the best thing ever.
Turning the envelope over, he noticed that it was open - and with a hum, he decided to take a peek at its contents. Just to make sure the letters one and the same, not to get into Soubi's business or anything. Glancing over the page, he recalled how he had received one of these notices from "Alderbourn" before his crazy road trip with Sou-chan and Rit-chan, and tossed another aside not more than a week before he stood there with that familiar document donning his friend's name instead of his.
Maybe... it was a sign?
Kio may have jumped a bit once he'd lowered the page, only to see his friend leering at him from the doorway with the "I just caught a creeper going through my mail" sort of look on his face. He caught the candy that nearly fell from his lips with shining teeth behind a guilty smile.
"Uh... You got one too, I see," he declared as shook the mentioned document with an uneasy laugh.
