basically, i have to interview someone from a different cultural background than my own. sadly i only know honkys irl and i'm the only ethnic person THEY know so i have turned to the internet. it's okay if you identify as "white" because this is more about the culture your family comes from rather than how it's practiced now/how it is in america ( ( Read more... )

1 How do people greet each other-shake hands? Bow? Embrace? Kiss? Or other? How do they part?
2 What languages, and varieties of each language, are used in the community? By whom? When? Where? For what purposes?
3 On what occasions would you present or accept gifts? What gifts are considered appropriate? If flowers, what kind? (Some have special meanings.)
4 Are children usually present/participants in social gathers? Elderly members of the family? Women of the family?
5 Who is in a ‘family’? Who among these (or others) live in one house? What is the hierarchy of authority in a family?
6 What is the relative importance of an individual family member versus the family as a whole? What is the degree of solidarity, and in what domains?
7 In schools, are children segregated? If so, how-race? Class or caste? Sex? Religion? Grade level? Age?
8 Do most people read and write?
9 How are public sanitation, hygiene, and garbage dealt with?
10 What is normal dress of women? Of men? Does the color of dress have symbolic significance (e.g. ( ... )
