Here's what I got accomplished today. It looks more finished than it really is because everything is just pinned in place. It reminds me of the fashion high school down the street. They display their fashion projects in the windows. And it seems that they sometimes only make half a project, and it's all pinned in place rather than sewn. They're fun ( Read more... )

...that looks very nice...wait, if the underskirt is an underskirt, can't it be worn backwards or forwards or whatever suits your taste, as opposed the original way, or is it too uneven and clearly one side is the front...? Or put it on separately and turn it around if you have to...? I guess I don't know the details...

Thank you. I'm fine with having a separate waistband on the over skirt. I've made many many versions of this dress, and ultimately that's the way I do it.

That leaves the underskirt free to be worn with some other outfit.

I love it... I can't wait to start to touch up our costumes now.

As a "happy moving gift" or if you prefer "I feel guilty that we move in NC", hubby will buy me a sewing machine to ease my task... which should be interesting as I never use one before ah!

Do you make your costumes by hand??? That's amazing!!

I think you'll like having a sewing machine. I can't wait to hear what you think of it (when you get it).

Well... I cheat and modify more than doing it all by hands ;^)
Using old goth dresses, cut here, sewed there for a look alike robe a la francaise...
a classical late Edwardian coat transformed with double face tape to a 1760 frock coat.

I'm not sure how I will do with a machine though... if it's like computers, which I hate and changed carrier for 20 years ago... it may works ;^))
