I am still seeing the guy I went on that date with. Though I am not calling him my boyfriend yet. I'm hoping things can be nice and slow, because I'm really not confident at this sort of thing. I've been rewatching Miranda lately and finding representation.

I have enjoyed some of the comedians I've been to see, but you're right, they can be hit and miss. The ones that just say rude and disgusting things for effect really bother me. I mean they'll say you can derive humour from anything, but the thing is, to have humour, people have to be made to laugh, not feel shocked and offended.

MrWheezy and I have had the experience of seeing a comedian's stuff on Youtube, thinking they are awesome, seeing them in person, and being horrified at at least if not more of their joke threads. It's very different to have a 10 minute (or a few 10 minute) segments on youtube and be funny and appropriate, than it is to be funny and appropriate for an hour. I wonder if the inappropriate jokes by your friend's comedian are a first time thing, or at least the first time he'd seen them, at least. I probably would chalk it up to even really good and appropriate comedians can have bad nights/bad threads on jokes/tried something and failed. I wouldn't worry about it unless it happens again. Then you can be prepared in advance to bring it up. Or if your friend asks how you liked the comedian, you can have an honest response prepared.

Yes. I have experienced this too. I've also known audiences to be very uncooperative - one comedian I went to see asked the audience to suggest topics for him to make a joke about and I think someone said 'iguanas' or something which I thought was a bit unhelpful!

I tried to mention it to my friend, that I found the jokes offensive, but I came off a bit awkward and I'm not sure he really took in what I was saying. I will just try again someday.
