Who knew cleaning could be...
So much fun. I feel lighter each day as things we no longer need find their way to new owners...children's cookbooks, baby toys, stamping equipment...it is all heading off to greener and probably younger pastures. Life by the yard is hard
Life by the inch is a cinch. So, following the wise words of Mrs. Borkgren, my nursing instructor, I am inch by inch going through all the cabinets in the kitchen. They are all being replaced, and their contents need to be carefully sifted. I am erring on the side of 'fling' if in doubt. Garden delight
Have been lucky enough to have spent some time recently in gardens; my own and dear friends'. Have seen stupendous climbing cucumber vines with dangling fruit 3 feet in the air. Have enjoyed the rainbow of tomato possibilities...ripening heirlooms of every color including dark purple, plus the more expected red, green and gold. Found a charming ( Read more... ) -

Mothers and Babies, our group from when Shauna was a newborn, met today at my house for lunch. We had not had a formal visit with all of us together in probably 12 years. Hawaii in a nutshell...well, a big nutshell
We flew to the Big Island, and spent one night in Kona. The next day we began our circumnavigation of the island, heading north to Kohala, through Waimea, and into Hilo and finally Pahoa. Hawaii trip was incredible...great weather almost the entire trip, flat calm conditions, trades kicking up only in mid afternoon, great vis, and...marine life of all sorts. Heading to Hawaii...can't wait. Do face some rain it looks like but ...that is surviveable.
Hoping real hard that Kilauea sees fit to start pouring lava into the sea again...she has not been for a few months now. Lava is in surface flows but not entering the sea, which I wanted to get to photograph...

Good neighbors
A few weeks back our neighbor over the back fence asked Rick's help with a tree in his front yard. He had gotten estimates on having it removed and they were much higher than he had expected. Rick came and looked and said- you and I can do this. So the two gathered ladders, saws, etc and carefully cut down and chipped up the tree. The neighbor ( Read more... ) -
Thoughts on "Chopped"
Activities such as cooking don't first strike one as competitions, perhaps. But on the Food Network and other channels as well, various ways to pit chefs against one another have become common.
