Chapter 32. Green Eyed Monster

Alex’s strong handsome face could mask a thousand secrets. One could never really tell what’s on his mind, nor predict his next move. This was the reason why every time his anger was unleashed, whoever happened to be at its receiving end always suffered from a double whammy for its unexpected strike and destructive impact.

He was like a walking time bomb ever since the night he brought Adam with him to a high-class club. The image of his beautiful husband indulging in the pleasure of being kissed, touched, and groped by much younger, good-looking men had bothered him for days.

Like a snake’s venom, the initial irritation he felt when he saw Adam talked with everyone who approached him at the bar, which had amused him in the beginning, had spread like a malicious deadly poison throughout his body. He had never felt so insecure in his life. But instead of talking to Adam, his pride got in the way, and he sought to numb his brewing jealousy and anger with alcohol.

One day while Alex was driving them home after a busy day at work, Adam made up his mind to finally talk to him and find out what had been eating him up for the past week. His husband had been unusually aloof, quiet, and morose and his touches and kisses had been rougher and more possessive than usual.  And on numerous occasions when Adam caught him staring, Alex had immediately looked away, but not quick enough to hide the vindictive look in his eyes that made Adam’s hair stand on its end. He just needed to know if he had done anything wrong. His attempt at a conversation however failed because right before his mouth could form the words, Alex beat him to it.

“Don’t wait up for me tonight, Adam. I have a meeting and I don’t know what time I’ll be home.” Alex was barely keeping his anger. His knuckles had already turned white from tightly gripping the stirring wheel of the car, imagining it to be the neck of every man who had dared to flirt with his husband. Didn’t they know that Adam belong only to me?

“Oh… Okay.” Even if he was not able to get some answers to appease his confused mind, Adam felt more relieved than disappointed, but he tried his best not to show his relief for this reprieve, even if it was just for one night. For the past months since they got back from their honeymoon, Alex made sure they consummate their marriage every day. His husband seemed to be insatiable and there were even times when they had sex three times in a night.

After dropping Adam off, Alex headed to an exclusive club and instead of a client, he met his only trusted friend, Ryan.

Noting the almost empty bottle of vodka and the barely audible responses Alex made to keep up the façade of a two-way conversation, Ryan confirmed his suspicion that something was seriously bothering his friend.

“I’ve never seen you drink this much since we were training in the navy. Don’t you think you’ve had enough for the night?” He did not dare ask Alex what was wrong. If he was going to open up to him, he would have already done so. Having known his friend for a long time, he knew that he did not appreciate people meddling in his personal affairs.

Thinking he was steering clear from danger, Ryan asked the question he thought would cheer his friend up. “Where is that gorgeous husband of yours anyway? Maybe he should join us so he could bring you home. I don’t think you are in any condition to drive.” He barely caught the imperceptible change as Alex’s jaws tensed with the mention of Adam and he knew immediately that he asked the wrong question.

Despite feeling inebriated, Alex stood up, took out his wallet, and dropped a few bills on the table. “It’s getting late. I’ll call you tomorrow.” Ryan was left with no other option but to let his friend go.

*******************************

Alex drove like a mad man going over the speed limit and overtaking everything in front of him, making his wheels and engine screech in protest. He did not care, he was reckless, he was jealous, and he was fucking pissed.

The only reason Alex got home safely was because the streets were almost empty and the few cars that happened to have had the bad luck of sharing the same road with him had the sensibility to steer clear from his path.

Once inside his house, instead of passing out to sleep, he continued to drown the little bit of sanity he still had left in him by getting a bottle of vodka from the wet bar. Barely keeping himself up, he went to his bedroom. It was already dark and he could hardly make out Adam’s sleeping form.

He sluggishly dragged his feet toward Adam’s side of the bed and turned on the bedside lamp. If Alex could have predicted what his reactions would be like upon seeing Adam, he would have chosen to just sleep his anger off and wait till he was sober. But life had a way of screwing things up for him.

Adam looked so peaceful lying on his back; he looked like a sleeping angel.  Alex stared at the beautiful face that was framed with a thick crown of hair, the heavy lashes resting on his cheeks, the luscious lips that were slightly parted-perfect.

His eyes then ventured to his favorite spot on Adam’s neck and recalled the many times that he drowned in its sweetness. His eyes continued their exploration down toward the slight peaks of nipples underneath the light material that draped his body beautifully. The shirt had risen up to expose the creamy skin of his navel. The waist band of his blue briefs was peeking out of his loose pants that were riding low on his hips.

Adam had become his obsession, a very sweet temptation he had no power to resist.

Alex felt the usual stirring in his groin every time he saw Adam in a vulnerable situation. He hurriedly removed his belt and unzipped his pants to give his engorged member more breathing space.

He lay on top of Adam and started kissing his neck. His heavy weight was slowly rousing his husband. When Adam was fully awake and realized what was happening, he tried to dissuade Alex. He was repulsed by the smell of alcohol in his breath and the rough way he was being handled.

“Alex…, you’re drunk and you reeked of alcohol. Please… can we just do this tomorrow?” Adam tried to push him away.

Adam’s heart started beating fast when the more he avoided Alex’s advances, the rougher he became. He froze in shock when Alex forcefully ripped his shirt apart and continued to ravage his body, ignoring all his protests. Thinking it would hurt more if he fought, he just lay very still and let Alex have his way.

Adam yelped when he felt the initial pain as Alex tried to enter him dry.

“Alex… wait! I’m not yet ready! He was struggling to break away but Alex’s bruising hold on his hips kept him in place. “Alex, please, we need to use lube.”

If he could not stop Alex from taking him, he would at least make him use lube. Adam thought that he would use his intoxicated condition to his advantage and overpower him long enough to reach for the lube in the bedside drawer.

To Adam’s detriment, the alcohol in Alex’s system did not diminish his strength but only blinded his reason and he misread Adam's struggles as total rejection that aggravated his anger even more.

“Stop fighting me! You’re my fucking husband and your duty is to satisfy me and only me!” He pressed his hand hard on Adam’s mouth and pinned him down with his solid weight to keep him from scrambling free. He pressed his hardness against Adam’s entrance and did not stop pushing until he was all the way inside and fully encased in the warmth of Adam’s beautiful body.

Adam’s pleas came out as muffled cries underneath Alex’s strong hands. He choked on the blood that spilled from his cut lips. His cry for mercy turned into whimpers of pain when his opening was finally breached. Even if what came after was not a brutal nor mindless entrance, but a slow and possessive penetration, the pain still took Adam’s breath away and brought tears to his eyes.

Adam surmised that his own blood had somehow abated the pain as Alex started moving inside of him, affirming his fear that the forced entrance had torn him a little.

Alex was moaning as he savored the sensation of feeling Adam from the inside as he slowly pushed in and out of Adam’s body while kissing the crook of his neck. To be inside Adam was the only way he felt a certain connection with him. To be joined to him physically and to be united with him as one was the only way he could take full claim of him as his husband. If he could only make this moment last, he could stay this way forever.

When Alex held Adam’s head between his hands to look at his beautiful face, instead of reciprocated sexual pleasure, he only saw the tears that were streaming down his fearful eyes.

What will it take to make you love me? With Alex's pride hurt, the green-eyed monster within reared its ugly head. Why do I need to always beg for a morsel of your love like a fucking pauper? Why can you not give your love to me willingly?

The alcohol in Alex’s system further fanned his feelings of resentment and jealousy. His passion and lust drastically metamorphosed into rage. If you will not give me your love, then no one else is worth having it! I will make you feel this hurt you’re causing me and I will not make you forget to whom you belong!

Despite the tears blurring his vision, Adam saw Alex’s pained expression transformed into pure, raw hate that he all channelled into his forceful thrusts, the painful grip on his hips, and the deep anguished grunts that came from his core as he fucked him relentlessly.

Adam did not anymore see any reason to fight. He bit onto his pillow to silence his screams of pain and anger and forced his mind to escape into a beautiful place where instead of rough hands that hurt, there were only gentle loving caresses that made him feel loved-and he saw Kris’s loving face and he was able to bear everything.

He was brought out of his stupor when he heard tiny grief-stricken sobs that rose above the quietness that ensued as Alex lay unmoving on top of him after sexually gratifying himself, heedless of the pain he had caused. Adam was surprised to learn that the sobs were coming from him.

Adam had always considered himself a patient man, but he also had his limits. He knew that he signed a contract that gave Alex the right to have sexual contacts with him, but he was also fully aware that it should at the very least be consensual. He needed to get away if he still wanted to save a remnant of self-respect for himself before it was too late.

Driven by his indignation, he did not anymore think of his injuries or the consequences of his decisions. Adam hurriedly dressed and packed his meager possessions, that all fit into his backpack. He took Alex’s car keys and left the room without a backward glance not knowing where he was going.

When the guard heard the horn of Alex’s car that was speeding toward him, he hurriedly opened the gate without checking who was behind the wheels and assumed it was his boss.

Adam drove aimlessly for hours. His hands would inadvertently wipe the tears spilling down his face. The farther away he drove, the calmer he became. He finally stopped in a secluded parking area and decided to set out on foot to ensure that he would not be followed.

He hugged his jacket tight to keep himself warm and prayed to the universe to keep him safe.  Without thinking, he rode the first bus he saw on the road that happened to be headed South and was glad to have some stowed cash to pay for the fare. His cards, which he intentionally left behind, would prove useless anyway as they would leave transaction records that could easily be traced back to him. Adam saw the driver’s apparent lack of concern as a good sign that he would be able to cover his trail.

Even if a strong sense of loneliness enveloped him, there was a far stronger emotion that filled him up inside which brought him a sense of peace. He somehow felt lighter and could breathe easier, as if a heavy burden had been lifted. It suddenly dawned on him that he was freed from the shackles that were Alex’s professed love that was slowly suffocating the very life out of him.

It was pitched black outside. Adam turned his head to look around. The few passengers in the bus were either asleep or lost in their own thoughts. Realizing that he had not been followed, Adam let his guard down and allowed his mind to wander.

Adam had given their marriage a chance. Looking back, things seemed like they could work out when they came back from their honeymoon. In Adam’s mind, a marriage might survive even without love if there was at least respect in the relationship. He didn’t even rule out the possibility that his affection for Alex might even change over time.

It changed alright but not toward a happily ever after ending, for as time passed he was given more proof that Alex was a complicated man. There were so many sides to him that it felt like there were several persons living in one body. Living with Alex was like walking on a tight rope suspended high in the air. You always had to be on your guard, tilt a little to either side and you would face certain death.

Money however had never been an issue in their relationship. His credit card had no limit and no boundary was set as to how much he could spend from his allowance.

Aside from being generous with his wealth, Alex wasn’t also stingy when it came to acknowledging Adam’s talent and even allowed him to continue working at Parris. In fact, it surprised him that he was given a strong voice in the firm and was granted the freedom to make critical business decisions even without consulting his husband.

Alex didn’t also give any qualms at showing his affection toward Adam when they were out in public. Alex’s gentle side was made apparent from the way he held Adam’s back to the sweet way he would lightly drop a kiss on Adam when he thought no one was looking, to the adoring way he looked at his husband.

What Adam found difficult to adjust to was Alex’s domineering side that came out in the privacy of their bedroom. If he was accommodating when it came to his work, he was the exact opposite when it came to Adam’s looks.

He almost always didn’t approve of Adam’s choice of clothing. He had always insisted on Adam wearing the most expensive designers’ outfit. What was appalling was how it made Adam feel like the male version of Barbie doll, a toy that Alex wanted to dress up to be put on display and show off to his friends.

And if there was a place where Alex’s need to dominate came out more intensely in all its glory, it was in bed. He always wanted to be on top and in control, and demanded sex all the time.

What alarmed Adam even more was how Alex’s aggressiveness and possessiveness were escalating and teetering along the verge of obsession. Adam would wake up to ugly bruises from hands that gripped too tightly and bite marks that almost broke the skin which he had managed to keep hidden underneath his expensive clothes. No matter how hard Adam tried to find sexual gratification every time Alex made love to him, it always ended up making him feel used.

Sometimes Adam couldn’t help but cringe at the thought that Alex married him only to make non-consensual sex with him legal. With Alex, there seemed to be a blurred line between making love and forced sex and for several instances in the past Adam was not even sure if Alex had already crossed the line.

But last night, he was one hundred percent sure that he did. Just remembering stung his eyes. Adam abruptly wiped the tears from his cheeks. He took out the necklace he was wearing and kissed it before closing his eyes. The gentle racking of the bus and the deep hum of its engine finally lulled him to a fitful sleep haunted by nightmares filled with green eyed monsters.
