Chapter 42. The Sacrifice
Although Alex was still in a foul mood, he was much calmer now after receiving report that Adam was already home. Earlier, he was fucking pissed when Adam wasn’t picking up his phone and his useless bodyguards couldn’t find him. Since he thought Adam had run away again, he cut his trip short and headed home.
He had missed making love to his husband and he was rock hard just thinking about him in his bed. As soon as he got home he went straight to the bathroom to take a quick shower and came out naked. When he sat down on the side of the bed, Adam turned around and slowly opened his still sleepy eyes.
“Were you waiting for me?” Alex ran his thumb across Adam’s lips.
Adam nodded and he shivered inwardly at the dark desire burning in Alex’s intense gaze.
Alex’s hand quickly parted his robe to reveal his naked body inside. Eagerly, Alex’s lips descended to ravage Adam’s mouth, neck, and soft tender nipples, leaving red marks in their wake.
Adam’s body was writhing in pleasure as he imagined Kris’s warm mouth engulfing his engorged shaft and his hips started undulating to push it deeper. The discomfort he felt from the finger that penetrated him did not last as it was quickly replaced with the sweet stimulation of his prostate. Deep moans escaped his lips from the double rousing sensation from Alex’s mouth and fingers. When the stimulation suddenly stopped, Adam whimpered in frustration.
He watched nervously as Alex pressed his length against his opening and pushed hard and deep until he was all the way inside. Alex placed one of his legs on his shoulder to bury his erection deeper into Adam’s body and thrust slowly and grunted deeply at the pleasure of the tightness and heat that surrounded him. While he was thrusting repeatedly, his hand moved between their bodies and stroke Adam’s swollen erection.
Right at the very edge of orgasm, Alex flipped their position to put Adam on top. “I want you to come for me while my dick is in your ass.” His large strong hands grabbed Adam’s hips as he fucked him from the bottom. Adam shuddered at the look of desire in Alex’s eyes as he watched him stroke himself.
Alex had never seen anyone as beautiful as Adam, especially in this moment of total abandon when he knew his mind was struggling to deny his body’s natural instinct for sex but failing miserably. Alex was even more aroused at the vision of Adam’s innocent angelic face juxtaposed to his sinful godlike body pleasuring himself on top of him.
He knew Adam was nearing his climax as he felt his opening squeezing his hardness and it also brought him to the peak of his explosion. Gasps and grunts filled the room as Adam released his load on Alex’s chest while he was filled inside with Alex’s essence. Tears welled in Adam’s eyes every time he had sex with Alex because he would always feel a deep regret for not being able to make love with Kris.
“Fuck! Adam you feel so good inside.”
While Adam was still weak from his release and hidden disappointment, Alex pushed him down on the bed for another round of sex and took him fast and hard as he pounded him from behind unmindful of his suffering.
After resting for a few hours, Adam was awakened again by a blow job. Despite his aching body, Adam stiffened and exploded in Alex’s mouth. When Alex mounted him again to satisfy himself, Adam bit his lip to curb his protests that he was already sore all over and just surrendered his body completely.
Adam woke up to the smell of coffee. His whole body ached and he had no recollection of how he had fallen asleep and thought that maybe he just passed out from exhaustion. He lifted himself up on two elbows and saw Alex, who was freshly showered, walked toward him and sat down beside him on the bed.
“You were wonderful last night, Adam,” he bent down before kissing him hungrily. “Your breakfast is ready,” Alex paused and turned his head toward several piles of boxes, “and those are your rewards for pleasuring me last night.”
Adam lowered his head to hide his cheeks that turned red with embarrassment when he was reminded of how willingly he had participated in debauchery last night. He knew Alex would be amused by his naive reaction and would tease him about it so he turned his head away toward Alex’s gifts of several shopping boxes that were most probably purchased abroad. After many months of practice his lips easily turned up into a false smile and he automatically whispered, “Thank you.”
“I heard Mr. Allen approved of all your designs,” Alex said with pride in his voice as he stood up to get dressed in the bathroom.
Adam’s heart skipped a beat at the mention of Kris’s name. He felt sick at using his body to distract Alex and not give him reason to suspect anything. Last night, he remembered getting barely enough time to shower and to look alluring before his husband arrived in the nick of time because he spent an agonizingly long period convincing Kris to let him go back.
There was no doubt in his mind that he had to go through with his plans even if he was scared to death of getting caught. For Adam, the acceptance of being Alex’s husband had come painfully hard but it happened nonetheless even in the absence of love because there was gratitude. Now, after realizing the scale of Alex’s deceit, he couldn’t look at his face and not see a monster hiding behind the mask. It took all his willpower to keep the bile from rising up his throat every time Alex kissed him. His very touch was poison slowly corrupting him. If he stayed a minute longer in this house, he would surely die anyway, so he might as well die fighting.
He schooled his features again and kept up the act when Alex came out of the bathroom fully dressed. “Adam, why aren’t you getting ready yet?”
“I’m not feeling well today. I think I just might use this day to rest.” Adam didn’t even have to act sick because he really felt nauseous.
Alex raised his hand to feel his forehead. “I think I have made you overexert yourself last night,” Alex’s lips turned up into a smirk, “I insist you rest today. You need to keep your strength up tonight,” he said suggestively as he gave Adam’s hip a squeeze before turning around to leave.
No sooner than Alex closed the door behind him than Adam jumped out of bed to start packing his old clothes and leaving everything he remembered came from Alex. After he was done packing, he quickly scribbled his letters and drove his car out to the airport.

Kris kept glancing at his watch. Adam should’ve been here five minutes ago. Twenty-five more minutes and the plane would soon depart. He couldn’t help feeling a sense of déjà vu and with every passing second, he felt his panic rising a notch higher as horrid thoughts assailed his mind. What if Adam got caught and was hurt? What if he got cold feet and abandon their plan?
He admonished himself inwardly for letting Adam go back to Alex, he should have insisted that they left last night. He already lost Adam once, he wasn’t sure he could survive if he lost him again.
“Sir, that’s the last boarding call, if you don’t go now, you’ll miss your flight,” the airport crew said.
Leaving Adam the last time was the reason why they were all in this mess, he would not make that same mistake twice. “They can leave without me; there’ll be many more flights available. I’m not going anywhere.”
“He must have a pretty good reason for not showing up,” the girl said sympathetically. Kris gave her a weak smile and turned swiftly when a porter approached them.
“Excuse me, Sir, are you Kris Allen?”
Kris felt his heart in his throat so he simply nodded.
“Well, a handsome guy told me to give this to you.” He handed Kris an envelope.
Kris quickly grabbed it. “Where is he?”
“Sorry, Sir, after giving me a large tip, he drove off like the devil himself was after him.”
“Thanks,” Kris sounded disappointed and hurriedly opened the letter with shaking fingers.
My Dear Kris, as you’re reading this letter, I would probably be a hundred miles away heading to God knows where. I love you too much to watch you throw your precious life away for me. I’m so sorry but as painful and heartbreaking as it may be, it’s time you finally forget about me. You deserve somebody better. Love, Adam
“No! No!” Kris was shaking his head refusing to believe that this was happening. His knees buckled under and he plopped down on the seat. The letter dropped to the floor and he covered his face with his hands to keep himself from screaming in anger, despair, and hopelessness.
But his feeling of defeat was only short-lived, the vision of Adam all alone, with Alex in his tail propelled him into action. Adam needed him now more than ever. He would never dessert him this time even if it would mean chasing after a lost dream. There was no time to waste. They still have the mileage of time and he was certain that Alex had not yet discovered their plan to escape; he needed to find Adam before Alex does.
Kris just needed to figure out where Adam would go. He carefully thought, If I were Adam, where would I go?
**************************************
Alex came home early that day. His lovemaking with Adam had left him wanting more. It also dawned on him that in his excitement last night, he forgot to talk to Adam about his whereabouts the other day when he failed to reach him. He was beginning to suspect that Adam deliberately disobeyed him and a sign of defiance no matter how minute must not be tolerated. There was going to be a long discussion tonight with his husband after he had fully satisfied him in bed.
The only problem was there was no sign of Adam in the bedroom. He was about to leave to check the other rooms when something caught his eye. On his bedside table lay Adam’s old phone which he knew he hid away in his drawer. Beside it was Adam’s wedding band, and underneath it was an envelope with his name scribbled on it in Adam’s penmanship. Alex quickly opened the letter to read it.
Alex, I could never live with your lies anymore. I already know the truth. It’s over. Don’t bother looking for me. I am taking my life back, at least the part I could still fix. If you have a tiny shred of decency left in you, you would leave me in peace. Adam
Alex crumpled the letter and smashed the phone hard against the wall. “That’s the problem, Adam. I don’t have any more decent bone left in my body.”

The tranquility of the ocean in front of him was a stark contrast to the tumult inside Adam’s head. He was struggling to understand that if he did the right thing of leaving without Kris, then why the hell did he feel wretched? Why did it feel like an arrow had pierced right through his heart and causing him unbearable pain?
Adam felt awful for hurting Kris, especially when he remembered the look of trust he saw in his eyes when he believed him that he’ll meet him at the airport. Adam squeezed his bloodshot eyes shut to stop the tears from falling.
Adam breathed out a deep sigh. At least now he knew Kris would be safe. If Alex found him, then his husband could just kill him. He thought he would soon die of loneliness anyway. He took out his moon necklace and brought it to his lips wishing it would give him the strength to weather this storm.
He quietly watched the sun set in the horizon. He didn’t really know what made him drive to this resort where Kris brought him after their secret engagement. Maybe he wasn’t ready yet to let go. Maybe he still wanted to hold on to something beautiful. Tears quietly ran down his face. Adam sadly thought, There are just some sacrifices in life worth making.
The beach was now empty and the cold night breeze made him shiver. He wrapped his arms around his body wishing Kris was there with him.
“You’ll get sick if you stay out here in the cold.”
Adam turned his head in surprise and saw Kris standing behind him. Kris slowly approached and tentatively held him in his arms. Adam tensed and then slowly relaxed in his embrace.
“How did you find me?” Adam’s voice was a mere whisper.
“My heart found you,” Kris turned Adam to face him.
“I’m not scared of dying as much as I’m scared of losing you.” He pulled him closer and their foreheads rested against each other. “I love you so much, Adam. Life without you is a million times worse than death. Don’t you ever leave me again.”
The sadness and uncertainty in Adam’s face made Kris wrap him protectively in his arms.
“Adam, I know a place where we can spend the night. Let’s go, baby, you’re cold.”
Adam absently nodded. He wasn’t sure if he should be thankful or worried that Kris found him. Unknowingly, maybe that’s why he came here in their special place. Somewhere, buried deep inside his heart, he wanted Kris to find him. And now that he did, how come he still couldn’t shake the feeling of dread that had almost become a permanent part of his life. Why was happiness so elusive? Would he ever feel completely happy again?
