Fic: Someday At Christmas (CSI, Nick/Greg, PG) + advent calendar

Dec 10, 2008 06:36

Today is Jack Johnson day on the advent calendar. And since it's Jack Johnson day, and I've been writing that little Jack Johnson-themed series, I thought I would take a break from Yuletide and write a little CSI fic to go with the music. But oh my God, you guys, I did not intend for it to be this appalling. Talk about sappy. My little angst- ( Read more... )

Hey, Christmas is supposed to be sappy. It's like a requirement ( ... )

Ooh, now this post has two fics in one! Yay! I do love Greg's Norwegian roots, and I loveloveLOVE the idea of him carting old family ornaments around with him. I'm so glad this inspired you a little. :)

And I can totally see Nick's mom as the glass ornaments-and-ostentation type, so really, she has been going about it all wrong.

Glass and ostentation indeed. All in white and silver. So even tho it's beautiful, it's cold and unapproachable. It's not something that Nick noticed before. The contrast between Greg's homemade Christmas and his mom's Tiffany's tree-topper only now are obvious to him. He's trying to decide if he should invite his folks out next year...just to see her reaction.

I would pay cash money to see Nick's parents interacting with Greg on a personal level. Seeing his dad be all stiff and unapproachable, but trying to accept his Gay Son, and seeing his mom try to keep up with Greg's nervous energy. Because he babbles when he's nervous, and she'd go back to the hotel exhausted and just stare at the ostentatious hotel Christmas decorations over a martini until the world turns itself upright again.

Is she self-aware enough to realize that her own home looks like that hotel lobby? Especially after a couple of martini's. "Just one more, dear," she sighed. "That boy is exhausting."

I know the show told us what his folks names where, but now I can't remember. Do you? Or any of your flist?

I STILL have not watched Grave Danger, so I have no idea what their names are. I am a bad fan. Whatever her name is, she is probably not self-aware enough to realize her house looks like a hotel. She probably just finds it comforting in a vague way.

And Nick's dad would just sit there, watching her get tipsy, and wonder where he went wrong with Nick. If only he'd managed to keep him in Texas, at least he might have settled down with someone *normal*. A man, sure, but at least one who speaks the same language as them.

"Just one more, dear," she sighed. "That boy is exhausting."

I will just be repeating this over in my head all day and giggling to myself. My coworkers know I'm medicated, so they'll just chalk it up to that.

"Grave Danger" (tho for some reason my fingers always type "grabe danber") is actually a very good episode. George did himself proud. Watch it sometime. I'll have to get the DVD out and see if I can spool up that section without traumatizing Chloe. She's so far only seen Public Television and the Food Network ( ... )

"I think they liked me," Greg says, but he doesn't sound all that sure. The truth is, Nick's not all that sure either, because he doesn't talk to his parents all that much and when he does, it's not about his love life. But he knows this is important to Greg, so he pulls him close to press a kiss against his neck.

"Of course they liked you. Everybody likes you."

"True," Greg says, tilting his head a little to give Nick access to the spot just below his ear, but he still doesn't sound like he believes it.

"I like you," Nick says, punctuating each word with a kiss along Greg's jaw. "I like you a lot."

And he's pretty sure that's not going to stop Greg from worrying about his parents, but he lets Nick kiss him anyway, and that's good enough. He sends up another quick thanks to whoever's listening that his parents booked a room instead of staying with them, then he drags Greg toward the bedroom.

COMMENT FIC FOR THE WIN.

Oh meeting parents... while in real life it is horrific and petrifying, in fic it fills me with bubbles of glee. :D

"You know who's going to love you," Nick says, propped up on one elbow and watching while Greg pants next to him, eyes closed and his chest shining with a thin layer of sweat. "My sisters. I bet they can't wait to get their hands on you."

"Sounds kinky," Greg says, cracking one eye long enough to grin at Nick's expression.

"Very funny. And you wonder why I don't go home more often."

"Nah, I know it's because you'd miss me too much."

"True." Nick runs his fingers through Greg's hair, pushing damp strands away from his forehead. "If we ever get any time off together again you can come with me."

"Okay," Greg says, turning onto his side to look at Nick. "I would like to meet your sisters. I bet they've got stories to tell."

Nick shakes his head, but he can't quite hide his smile. His sisters will find a thousand different ways to embarrass him, but they really will love Greg, so it'll be worth it.

That is what siblings are for!

Also, SLEEPY ADORABLE DOMESTIC FIC. You know, you really spoil me, Caroline. I don't know what I did to deserve you but I am thankful for you every day. (With or with out the fic, as you rule so far beyond just the written word. :D)

You say nice things about me! And you're my friend in spite of the fact that I am clearly insane. That is pretty much all it takes. :)

I never say anything that is untrue, and you put up with me and I am totally crazy so at least we are evenly matched? :)

They would, too. Knowing that their baby brother is finally happy would make them put up with anyone, but Greg is cute, smart and clearly in love with Nick so they will find him nearly irresistable.

I think you need to start a new ficathon in THAT direction!

Plus Greg has enough energy to keep up with all their kids, which makes him the perfect free babysitting service at family reunions. He will be exhausted every night and never even have the energy to try to convince Nick to fool around in his old bedroom, but they'll both love every second of it.

I don't actually believe Greg could pass up the opportunity to fool around in Nick's old bedroom, no matter how tired he was.

After watching Greg interact with the hordes of grandchildren all weekend, Bill has come to a grudging respect for the guy. He's always ready to help take the strain off Jillian (who isn't as young as she once was and really tires after a few hours of bedlam), and that alone makes him pretty special in Bill's eyes. Plus, he's never seen Nick like this. Glowing. Giggling, for God's sake. So happy. They feared their happy child was gone for good after all the trials he'd been through the last few years, but there he was. That smile lit up the whole room. Bill looked over the dog-pile of children and Greg to his wife watching from the other room. They shared a smile, of long practise thinking alike. It was good to have them all home. Even Greg. Funny. He'd seemed too different in the glare of Vegas, but he seemed to fit right in here in Dallas.

It was going to be a good Christmas.
