Part of womenlovefest.

I've been meaning to write something on this subject for a long time and since I'm doing this Donna appreciation week and I've been getting such a wonderful feedback, it's a great occasion to finally make this happen.

Warning: mistakes. English is not my first language, so I believe there might be lots of them.

A wonderfully presented argument! There are a lot of things I agree with here. I found that fanfiction tipped me completely into being a shipper - but I have no intention of complaining about it. :D

I'm glad it makes any sense :D
Yes, fanfiction can take you to the completely new places, but that's the beauty of fandom!

Great arguments and it's almost like YOU ARE IN MY HEAD with the whole companion progression (never did ship the Rose, though, but I didn't *hate* her or anything...not until she kept coming back in season 4 and stealing Donna's screen-time.)

My one difference, of course, is that I so desperately would have killed to have the Doctor/Donna get romantic because it's just my head canon, you understand. But what makes the Donna/Doctor relationship delicious, you see, is exactly what you've pointed out -- they are such awesome friends, and so perfectly suited for each other, how *could* they possibly be with other people?!

In any case, I've rambled enough. Just wanted to say that I've been following your Donna appreciation week with much joy!

Oh yes, she should have never come back in season 4, because IMO they really ruined her character (though I kinda liked what she did in Turn Left, the more people telling Donna how awesome she is, the better ;D).

I understand completely. It's just a matter of how one perceives what they see (that's why I always say that when talking about, for instance, fanfiction, saying something is or isn't canonical is simply hypocritical).

Thank you for your comment and yay, I'm glad I'm not disappointing with the appreciation week!

I'm not a Ten/Donna shipper because I am a very canonical person, and all TPTB (including Catherine Tate, very recently) have said that it was a friendship, but nothing romantic. I *love* them as BFFs, I think they are epic and that she is exactly what he needs in a friend.

I gotta say, TenToo/Donna as a romantic pairing squicks me out. The whole thing about him being part human is that he has her DNA. They're like ... practically brother and sister. That ship is basically incest, and I just can't go there. As BFFs? If they'd been able to hang around each other, sure ( ... )

I completely get following the canon and while I agree with the Doctor/Donna awesome friendship, I just have nothing against doing something more with them ( ... )

(if I'm correct, it's not even official if he's a regenerated Doctor or just a clone)

He's actually never been referred to as a "clone" by the powers that be over at the BBC - Moffat made a joke about it once at ComicCon 2008, but if you watch the video, he was just clearly saying that to troll Julie Gardner, who had just made some extremely TenToo/Rose shippy comments about them being in love and dating in Pete's World XD Davies, Tennant and Gardner referred to TenToo as a different version of "the Doctor", and Tennant even made a comment in the Journey's End commentary that technically TenToo might even be considered to be the Eleventh Doctor.

I just see none between Ten and Eleven (but that is just my own problem with 11 that is way too big for a discussion on a completely different subject ;).

Haha - say no more, I gotcha XD

I just have this thing that I take everything based on my own feelings and what I see, which is why I so often don't agree with what's presented in canon. Yeah, this is a ymmv thing. I figure - we wouldn' ( ... )

Yeah, he should know, but... I just can't shut up sometimes, I think I love some characters more than I should ;)

Haha - say no more, I gotcha XD
Oh, finally someone, who understands!

It's complicated... Just like my other favorite friends-or-lovers OTP: Goren and Eames from "Law & Order: Criminal Intent". I know what TPTB and the actors say, but... When I look at what happened on-screen, I find myself not really buying the party line, shall we say ( ... )

I don't know how to thank you for this comment, because you explain everything SO MUCH BETTER THAN I DO.

I also think that, while the creators might say they meant to show one thing, it's close to impossible that the viewers will not see something more (apparently they did that friendship so well, that it's not hard for us to go one step further, right). I also think that it's the beauty of everyone having their own opinion - wouldn't it be boring, if the whole fandom shipped Doctor/Rose, like the creators wanted, and just left Doctor/Donna in the sphere of friendship? Where would be the place for creativity?

The Time Lord genetics were so dominant that Donna's specific DNA that distinguishes her from all other humans can't be found at all.I've thought about the meta-crisis effects a lot, especially while writing this meta and replying to the comments, and that is the opinion that I think sums it up best. I believe that what Handy got from Donna were mostly her personality traits and it just never occured to me (until yesterday, ( ... )

Well, here's the thing: the writers can do one thing, but if the actors can't pull it off or lack the right chemistry to make it believable... And then when an unofficial dynamic has more oopmh to it, feels more natural... You get the idea. I'm sure every person here can think of some pairing that they just couldn't buy because the casting pairing didn't have that spark to it ( ... )

I personally feel it's offensive to treat Handy as JUST a Duplicate 10th Doctor
This is why I just can't take RTD's word for that Handy's had his happily ever after, no need to worry about him; and that's also why I keep saying that assuming he's got the same feelings as Ten does is just wrong. When I was preparing for this meta, I rewatched that scene on a bay and I could see, even in the way Tennant acted, that Handy would love to just hit the Doctor for deciding about his whole life for him. He's a part-Time Lord, for heaven's sake, how would Ten feel if someone just locked him in a paralel world, which wasn't even his world, as, what, a consolation prize for Rose ( ... )

To be honest, I've never come across a Doctor/Donna fic that I would buy in 100% (I have my own vision of Donna and Doctor in my head that I rarely find in other people's works), but I'm pretty sure I must have read something that I did enjoy anyway. I'll search though my bookmarks later and if I find anything, I'll surely drop you the link :)
