You hear that sound, George? That's Jane Austen spinning in her grave like a cat in a tumble dryer!

Austen purists, beware! I'm enjoying very apocryphal Austen adaptations. I feel kinda dirty, in a good way. :-)

I watched this several weeks ago, with my mother and sister, and we all loved it. We were laughing so hard the entire miniseries. The title to this post is my favorite quote from that. And I loved most of the twists. Lady Catherine and Miss Bingley were both good, but my favorite was Wickham (I also feel kinda dirty saying that, but it's such a great twist. I loved that Wickham). My biggest problem was that I didn't really like that Darcy. He wasn't bad, though not nearly as good as Colin Firth or Matthew MacFadyen. My problem is that I saw that actor play a really creepy bad guy on a Poirot, so it influenced me. Although I have to admit their way of working in the obligatory wet!Darcy was brilliant. Overall, it was really good. I highly recommend it - just remember it's crack!fic. :-)

As if Lost in Austen wasn't sufficiently apocryphal, when I was searching for a birthday gift for my brother at thinkgeek.com (one of my favorite websites), I came across the book Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. I started giggling as soon as I saw it, and I had to get it. It arrived today (along with my brother's present, which is perfect for him), and I started reading it. It's hilarious! Basically, they took the actual text, and added/changed things to make it fit the new plot, which is that there's a plague of zombies attacking people in Hertfordshire. Elizabeth and her sisters are skilled in the deadly arts and kill lots of zombies (also called "unmentionables"). Darcy is impressed with Elizabeth's skill with a dagger. I keep cracking up. It's so delightfully twisted. Definitely crack!fic.

So, yes, Austen is spinning in her grave. I'd apologize, but I'm having too much fun.
